Unfortunately I did not check the size of the folder before using the clean function.
Anyway leaving default settings, I mean the two flagged checkboxes, it cleaned 729 of 1454 saved mods.
The vast majority of them comes from that Test free drive server at Westhill where many people try many mods.. so the folder is very crowded
Removing also the mods that are never seen on replays would be nice to have.. yeah, but.. I think it is better instead to just "advertise" the clean function exposing the mods number and mods disk space used, maybe even inside the button "Clean":
< Clean 1454 mods | 10.5 GB >
While trying different servers, as I did, I am too amazed by how many mods "I" downloaded without even trying them once, so that mods folder may grow a lot without the user noticing it.
In my case, having good internet connection, the downloads were always very fast (FFTH, Italy - Rome) so I did not feel they were somewhat heavy.
The fact that I am complaining about a formula having a horn and a handbrake is because all pilots left LFS long time ago. You should check the sim racing community: plenty of titles and LFS is sometimes not even listed.
If you do take ANY complain as offensive, as "being upset", you know why NOBODY ELSE is willing to do any criticism.
For you is perfect as it is SO IT SHOULD BE FOR ANYONE ELSE.
Good way to make people wanting to not say things out loud anymore.
Very good mods have multiple changes, because they are refined. I can provide example since for you this is new. Not refering to bad mods, of course.
Formula category is very important.
More detailed skins are important.
I absolutely am going to not partecipate to such a counter productive event, where the track is not existing, skins are just colours, people drive formulas using handbrakes.
What you missed in my post is that this mod is below acceptable condition to be included in a proper SIMULATIVE racing competition.
If you are not able to understand the word simulation, that's why you can't comprehend what I said.
For me, trying to be able to do such a competition is a good thing that shows the game isn't ready in the first place. It is all organized very well, by the way.
Please continue enjoy a simulative racing competition where a formula car can use an handbrake (and it is used during race as I saw myself), but since no one is complaining, THEN nobody has the right to complain about nothing. What?
Very, very constructive. Good way to keep the community alive!
Thanks for not accepting any discussion and not providing nothing if "well, for others it is fine, so please shut up".
You said: there are more important things in the world.
Well, you are right.
But ANY problem on LFS, even if LFS stopped working, crashed everyday to everyone, then there were always more important things in the world than a stupid computer game!!
What is the point of saying that?? There is NO code bug more important than Ukraine Russian war or the pandemic or the whatever!!! Thank you really much for pointing that out, it speaks volume.
Can you please do me an example of something on LFS more important than the bigger problems in the world?
"we are working hard and trying to get to the long awaited release. I've discussed a little with Eric about the need for us to try to bring our work to a close and really get to the release."
(december 2nd, 2022 - 104 days ago)
Can these patch updates come with also the long awaited release, please?
What needs to be done yet to the new tire physics? Can be fine tuned while receiving feedbacks from users?
About things needed strongly by the community that the main developer discovers only 15 years later, please implement a modern upvote/downvote system.
The forum thread is not the right place to discuss about suggestions / bugs / enhancements.
Something like Reddit upvote / downvote system.
There are many companies offering such online service, like https://featureupvote.com/
But, as a web developer, I guess it would be quite easy to program one similar tool.
Basically, an onsite ticket system where to collect bugs, suggestions, requests.. voted / liked / starred by users, so the devs can immediately see whats more urgent and then however make their independent decision or comments about.
I do mind instead, I hope @scawen will solve this nonsense as soon as possible.
If I search for a formula, I expect to find formulas, it is that simple.
This mod is used for doing Formula E style races: it has 3/5 stars votes, very few updates, no real skins BUT it has a horn and a handbrake (btw some pilot used it during the last race on march 12th, I saw it clearly and the commentator too!!).
Now I get why Verstappen is so strong on Formula1! He uses a handbrake...
It was not enough already knowing the weather change is "simulated" changing tires.
LFS is gone fully arcade and nobody cares.. wow
They are on a higher level, indeed.
Cannot say for all of them, but even GT5 has a much higher AI intelligence.
AI on LFS have to be enhanced, I remember discussing about it around 2003-2005, because even 2 decades ago that AI was barely acceptable.
Please, everyone, look around more.. it is clear just by looking at some youtube videos.
Thank you for letting me know how good your memory is.
That Eric post is on Sat 26 Jul 2014.
By approx 12 years Eric does not use the same game we use?
You remember well a very important post indeed that was made 9 years ago.
Seriously, is Eric talking about the same tire physics on development that Scawen is still doing now?
Can you please link to those Scawen's posts? I remember none about this topic, assuming it is a very sensitive one to be kept secret.
Then when you say 'we should not see big differences' I wonder what is the reason to do any change.
The problem is that LFS looks like a game from 20 years ago.
And that's why the new upcoming LFS 1.0 in particular about the new graphic system will surely change the impression of this game to the people!
Have you checked on recent racing sim games? Assetto Corsa? GT7? BeamNG? Have you see how realistic they are and how different they look from the actual LFS? Seriously, please. It is absolutely normal that from the point of view of a foreigner to this game, the real impression is for a 20 years old game. They cannot see any development because of the graphic level. That's just why.
The worrying part for me is not that the people don't understand LFS at first look, it is that the devs don't understand the people and the basic graphic level required to be considered a modern sim racing. Please look more what is around.
This is car is made of pure LFS style.
Not a real car but a mix of many into something beautiful with the right amount of details for the game: not too many, not too few.
Hope this will inspire others.
With some skins it will be perfect!
Bravo.
I hope that unpublished mods are flagged internally in some way that the LFS interface can check and then skip, while deleting only the real public mods even if there is no internet connection.
While it is important to have a cleanup function that removes all the old versions of a mod, I disagree about an enhancement check based on replays also.
If I want to watch a replay having old mods, then LFS will download the old mod. That is fine. I can wait a second for the download to end before starting the replay.
Cleaning up disk space is much higher priority.
LFS should display the actual mod folder size - but also how much could be saved if the cleanup started (it should not be hidden somewhere in the options because disk usage for mods is huge now).
Replays can contain many, many old mods.
I really don't want at all to leave old mod folders forever just because a very old replay still lies somewhere in my forever long replay list - otherwise no mod folders will be ever deleted basically!
If Scawen will not be ready releasing the new LFS version in particular for DX11 and lighting new system, when this mod will become public, I am gonna be very annoyed.
Looks great, It deserves a proper renderer.
So, lets recap what happened recently.
You decided the development version is at maximum priority and nothing else would be discussed or added, that was 1 month ago.
ONE, MONTH, AGO.
Scawen, I cannot even begin to express how, after many years waiting, you are stretching our guts with this constant changing mind about literally anything.
We, the users, literally don't know anything about what needs to be done to the tire physics.
What is done? What is missing? Precisely, how much longer do you need?
1) A week
2) A month
3) A year
Please, now it is your turn to answer a question.
I keep updating your forum's post, but lately I am cringing so much I have to stop for my own mental health.
The last dev update was delivered almost one month ago.
Engine repair is completely and utterly a useless distraction at this point, I really feel you cannot make the promise you did at us and keep adding small things that could be easily added 15 years ago or in a 15 years from now.
About the multi-threading develpment, you told us really a lot even including images to let understand us the process.. but now? From march to may 2022 and now we know nothing about tires.
While I like the indipendent free development, without commercial or marketing big corps awaiting with their strick deadlines, I wish at the same time the LFS team would be made of more than actually 1 person.
Out of here, there is a new world trend about sim racing: e-Sports arrived, home-setups are incredibile and more affordable - that is an incredible period for sim racing and LFS is hyped in many Youtube videos as still one if not the best driving-feeling racing sim in the world.
You cannot do all forum, all the simulation, all the interface, all the sound, all the editors, all the documentation..
For the love of every Gods existing, please hire someone and organize a better working schedule, this path I see is going nowhere.
It is much different from 2003: the next big update will only bring us to 2013ish.
I kindly remind you that DirectX 11 were released on October 27th, 2009.
Best,
From a 20 year long LFS user and fan.
Learning Blender the hard way!! I like your style.
That license-war got out of hands.. I understand your frustration.
The 3D model looks already very promising, can't wait!
Scawen, I read all your comments, but I apologize in advance cause I did not read all the thread, so this is my short suggestion list, may be something was already be proposed.
All concrete objects having colours selectable.
Street lamps: they would be the source of light during an evening/night event, otherwise almost any layout would be forced to be used only during the day (and we don't want that, do we?).
Speed road bump object more customizable, in particular to be more wide and more/less tall.
