The hardware configurations of some of the Steam users. Older computers are still not dead yet! Even we use some ~10 years old machines.

I'm also considering installing Linux (Lubuntu), but my computer does 30 FPS with everything on. I guess I couldn't expect the same with Wine, as it's more like an imperfect Windows emulator rather than a true compatibility layer.

Vitaly_m's description should be stickied somewhere though, to make users find the solution for their texture problems easier.

Quote :That's why Steam OS has the potential to be a game changer. History say's that change is the only constant, let's see different OS's actually offer a different playing field.

I'm not sure about the majority, but personally I was a little disappointed in SteamOS. I do use my computer for gaming, but I do many other things with it, programming, writing, hosting servers sometimes (on LAN for example), and SteamOS by default doesn't really provide this, I have to install a lot of extentions that are provided on other Linux distros by default. Personally, I was looking for an OS that is better for gaming, but does not necessarily exclude everything else.

On the other hand, Steam client is pretty cool on Linux, it practically installs itself, and if I change the filesystem under it, Steam itself quickly adapts to it. There are not much games for it atm, but wine is still an option (which decreases performance. That's why I was looking for a distro that can run every game natively [is this a word?], but SteamOS is kinda quirky atm.).

Oh, and since LFS demands for power hasn't increased much in the past decade, I think running on WINE won't be much problem, I haven't tried it personally, I use W7 for gaming purposes , but might run only Linux at the next OS reinstallation.

Quote :OpenGL does not provide support for input, sound, ... while DX does.

Hold on a second... Are you saying, that OpenGL is inferior to DX, because as a Graphics Library, it only supports graphics? Heck, I will install OpenAL for the audio parts... problem solved...

Yep, it's going to be reverted to page 98 again

@dawesdust_12: Do I understand clearly, that you are doing this, because you don't like a font type? Does it mean really that much to you? Comic Sans is perfectly readable for me, but maybe I have a special ability to understand other font types than Times New Roman...

Then at least write a song about LFS :P

Scawen makes physics solution,
but some people want revolution.
The devs are a bit slow, we all know this,
yet some people does not acknowledge this.

Eric is the one, who gives us the main content,
but no one see him, so we are a bit content.
He makes cars that everyone likes,
But it has nothing with release times.

Victor answers our questions peacefully,
but no release times, to be truthfully.
He always seem to be with us here,
But he doesn't read the replies either here.

I think I'm finished with this one,
If you don't like it, do a better one.
We are all waiting for the next patch now,
but just look at some people: how?

Sorry

Will the new physics affect the sysreqs much? I'm using an 8 years old machine, so it's a crucial point for me

Quote :Even if they did, most people wouldn't know about them anyway, and if you have something to say to another player while racing, chances are, they are not in Teamspeak, skype, or ventrillo with you, and you would still have to type it out.

Yeah, that's why I don't really talk to anyone Since I don't have TS or Vent, and I don't want to start typing, (especially, since I use mouse+keyboard for driving, so I can't write and drive at the same time). They have to wait, until I'm done with racing.

Quote :I am sure there could be a lot of problems with this as well, such as mic spamming,

Just don't remove voteban, and it will be fine.

Quote :language barriers

Why, if you are typing a message, you don't have any language barriers?

Quote :TROLLING

See above.

Quote :people's microphones being too loud

Set incoming sound power to 1 db by LFS?

Quote :and bandwidth problems. (Voice chat could possibly lag the game, or even crash the server.)

Nah, TS behind LFS doesn't crash anything either. Or have 2 servers, one race server, and a chat server, and the text typing is also moved to chat server.

Quote :I don't know what a dog or bone has to do with anything,

I heard that "dog and bone" is a Celtic izé for "telephone"...

Quote :anything else than "thank you" or "dammit" during a race. I also don't see racing drivers IRL talking to each other.

"Give me way!", "Sorry, I can't let you pass right now, since the curve is small", "I'm gonna let you pass" and "Stop ramming into me damnit". Ahh, and "What did you eat for lunch today?"

Quote :why do we need this? Teamspeak and ventrillo work fine.

Good way issuing anyone to join to TS, because you want to talk to him

Quote from Nadeo4441 :That is true, but you have to agree with me that better graphics would mean more sales.

And the counterarguement is that those people who are all about the graphics won't buy it anyway because LFS is far too hard for them.

Scawen is just waiting for strong computers, that can support his physics simulation. It requires about 5,8 GHz now...

Quote from kimd41 :No it won't be the same for two years, why are you so pesimist?

Right to the point, huh?

Would you feel any better, if this todo list would still show the same for the last 2 years, instead the devs posting that nothing to announce in 2 years?

Guys, if we will have a new global physics, things might get easier, since the devs won't have to make a specified physics for everything, they want to add, if they add a truck, a tractor, a tank, an airship, or whatever, the physics will be able to determine it's movement by their shape, without need the programming of everything independently. The next patch won't bring something big. It just makes something even bigger to come later!

Hungarian is also horrible... Especially, since the two languages are not compatible with each other. (English has 3 cases, Hungarian has 18, and it's really visible, that a lot of suffixes are missing). It would be better, to ask a Hungarian (Attis ) to translate it.

You are the alpha testers of LFS, and you are even paying for it

I'm going to buy an S2 license really soon, but for me, at least everything is new under the sun.

I wonder about the new patch... something is crystallizing in my mind, as the problem is not with the physics, but how can the computer calculate such a physics (it has to be reverted to less calculation, but same effect).

Quote :- AI driver improvements

Ahh, another problem, since the AI is stupid as hell , and making it normally workable, is quite a hard thing (making them let you go with blue flag at the right spot, etc.). Online racing simulator, but which racing game doesn't have AI?
