We're hard at work on V8 stuff, but in the meantime we're running a developer Q&A

Got any questions about Us, Automation, the process of games development, something to do with cars?

Ask away and we'll answer it in an answers video

The cat bug should be gone in the latest patch that we're currently testing. For now, if in doubt, tick and untick leaded fuel

Quote from BlakjeKaas :To get a bit of playability out of the demo, they added scenario's.
From what I have seen, you start out with an engine that does not have the required specifications. It's up to you to fiddle with the engine until it does make the requirements.

I'm not sure, but it looks like there are 14 scenario's (16 for the ones who pre-ordered?)

In a year or so(?) the whole game will be done, or at least that's what they are aiming for and what I am hoping for.

Most of them are building engines from scratch to paticular specs and limitations, but some are revising existing designs

There are 14 scenarios for everyone.

We aim for a year, but that may be a little optimistic, but there will be loads more demo content along the way for those that preordered

You still can!

Quote from Hyperactive :Yes but I was talking about tweaking the body shape and materials and construction and then doing crash testing. Like the NCAP thing. Basically the uglier the car the more the crash test people like it. Which in turn could help to sell the car to people who really like thick doors and A-pillars.

Yeah, it won't quite be that advanced, but different base bodies will have different safety ratings, and you will most likely be able to have allu/carbon fiber panels

Err. you CAN tweak the car body shape, watch more of our videos :P

Quote from DieKolkrabe :How's the UI? Is it intuitiev and easy to get into or something you have to sit and chip away at?

We reckon its pretty easy to learn, but we're still working on improving it further

Over the past few weeks we've been working on adding Scenarios to the Engine Designer.

These short missions task you with designing or redesigning engines to certain specifications and restrictions, and I must say, even for us they're actually a lot of fun and some of them are quite challenging!

There is also some pretty new UI stuff that I've been working on, and a variety of art updates and gameplay tweaks!

Oh yeah, that vid is super old, we've done loads since then, but it is still amusing to watch us build a car after a few too many beers

Quote from XCNuse :It's a rare thing to play with!

how many games have there been (in the past decade specifically) that let you take some shitty motor and toy with it, blow it up, and then make it like a multi ten thousand dollar engine! lol

True! and the lust for games like that is the reason we made it!

Quote from lukelfs :
Ah right, would it be possible to add a option where you can choose whether to watch it in real time?

That's something I've been attempting to convince my programmer/co-designer to impliment, but its very low on the priority list right now.

Quote from Hyperactive :Have you guys thought about adding a racing programme to the game? Making and selling race cars? By racing programme I mean like once you have way too much money you could do few special events where you need to spend metric tons of money (le mans, F1, nascar etc.) to develop and sell a racing car. Or run it by yourself. Having such system could add nice marketing aspect into the game.

Also since you have engine dyno have you thought about adding wind tunnels and suspension shaker rigs?

We'd LOVE to do a factory race team manager aspect, It'd be a future expansion though I'd say, we need to finish the basics of the game first.

Wind tunnels we've considered, and would love at some point, but probably don't have time. Suspension shaker rigs is a new idea though, and would probably show off our suspension physics nicely (we'll have a think on that one)

Quote from lukelfs :Oh right that's cool!

Will there be variable valve timing? is it possible to see the torque curve in real time?

Also is it possible to get the car to bounce the rev limiter at the end of the run?

There is VVT and VVL yes.

You can't see the torque curve in real time as we decided it'd be too annoying to wait for the engine to do a full run every time.

We're still tweaking the sounds and plan to add a starter motor sound, and some lift off backfire for highly tuned engines, probably a rev limiter too

No, they are generated, we gave up on recordings.

You could import your own sounds, but its a lot of work!
