Just to keep you updated. I'm still working on the skin when I can but making the flags work across the sidepods is taking time. Hopefully have it done this weekend.
Given that the two flags are red, white and blue, trying to also incorporate a yellow and black colour scheme might not really work?
You could have the Norwegian flag on the right and the Union Jack on the left but biased towards the rear so that they line up in a mirror image across the top of the engine cover?
I'll give it a go for you if you want but it might take me a few days to find the time?
Someone up there ^ has proved that you can get more points by being 2nd for a lot of the race and then finishing last, this would lead to drivers doing well (like Alonso) and then backing off completely in the last 10 laps to conserve engines etc., knowing that 'on average' it will have a very small effect on their points.
Another point is the effect on a drivers psyche when they finish the race first after passing someone on the last lap to find that 'on average' they still finished second (say the 2nd place man gets FL and the winner was not always in 2nd). Then who stands on the podium? The last lap, 'do or die', passer who crossed the line first under a checkered flag and his moment of glory....or the man who gave it up on the last lap and finished second but still gets the top step of the podium? Thats the essence of racing surely....first to the finish. Anything else becomes an extended time trial.
If so, open the Logitech Profiler. Then go to Options and Global Profiler Settings and check Apply Persistent Profile. Then come out of the Options to the main screen. Click on the button you want to assign and Select Command
, then New Command. Give it any name and click Record, press the keyboard button you want for TS (check what LFS has keys set to so there are no clashes - don't worry you don't need to press the keyboard once its working) and then click Stop. Click OK and the button should be set so that when you press it (I use O, you use X), the PC registers the keyboard button you recorded being pressed.
Then go into Teamspeak and set the Push to Talk button to the keyboard button you specified. Et voila...
An example...
I go into Teamspeak and set Push to Talk to 'R' on the keyboard.
I then go into the profiler, ensure Apply Persistent Profile is checked, and record a New Command to button X. The New Command is simply pressing 'R' on the keyboard. Now when I press X on the wheel, Teamspeak sees it as 'R' being pressed on the keyboard and I can talk.
Let me know if you have problems.
P.S. - I would guess the same thing works for F9 and F12
I tried to render a vid using the camera trajectory converted from a spline. At 720x576, rendering the 100 frames using the same settings as I use for single renders took almost 24 hours!! I think i will need to try it using my draft settings for the renderer.
And btw - I use an Athlon XP+ 2000, 1Gb DDR400 RAM - so its not a great system - might need to setup my spare PC to render things for me.
I know I can adjust custom camera positions in single player replays (i.e. camera on the wings etc) but is it possible to do this in a multiplayer replay?
When you hit ESC in an mpr it just quits rather than allowing you to change options like it does in a spr.
I stopped checking the forum for a few hours and it all went crazy.
Lets get round to things....
1) I think we are going to settle on Caledonian Racing as the name for the team - Ecurie Ecosse might give us some trademark issues anyway
2) The team has grown very fast - I expected 2 or 3 replies at most - all are welcome at all levels
3)need - thanks for the offer on a website - I checked and we can have www.caledonianracing.com - if you need anyhelp or a bit of cash to get it setup then let me know
4)kidzer - a website would be great - I have some basic skills but from the looks of it I might be busy trying to keep on top of things for a while - if you can start something I will try to supply a logo, some skins and things ASAP
5)jaimi - I have attached a render of your skin - looks good. I'm happy with that for the moment.
6)sidi - thanks man - the nations cup was fun - this should go even better!!!
7)We have a dedicated server up and running. '[CRT] Caledonian Racing Team' is on now but we are having a few problems getting it to show in the master server list. Its not private at the moment but will be with passwords passed to everyone involved - feel free to get on there now if you want (note it may not be too stable at present)
8) We are using a team tag CRT. in front of names C, T in blue, R and . in white - join the server to see an example (if lurcho is still around)
9)any problems, issues etc. post here or PM me. My wheel is bust so until my DFP arrives on Tues I will be skinning, organising and becoming my very own virtual Ron Dennis!!!
At the moment we have:
typhoonf1 - Organiser, 'Manager', General Dogs body at the mo
lurcho - Providing Dedicated Server
jaimi - Has provided our first team skin for the BF1
need - Web Hosting
kidzer - Web Design
Bramski
zorrofox
DarkTimes
RockMonkey
nicolson10
Apologies to anyone/thing I missed - any suggestions, offers of help or demands/requests let me know. Will post/PM once the server is stable and we are ready for a full team meeting to see just how bad we are (there's a reason I skin and organise things - I'm a crap driver )
I will get my rendering hat on when I get home - should have something up here around 6 tonight.
Caledonian Racing sounds good to me - classy. We can always add mottos and slogans and things (The Flying Scotsmen (and women), Made In Scotland from Carbon Fibre, Home is where the Haggis is, Real Men wear Skirts etc.).
Now that we have a name and the beginnings of some skins all we need is some racing!!
Its been almost a year since my last OLFSL outing but I had to reenter my email and get a new password etc to show up. Could be a problem for some people.
The idea is a good one but it is very Nascar in the whole having to draft thing. The tracks obviously arent set up for it but maybe it could be done with a mod?
As for oval racing - it has its place - just watch a race on one of the "Nascar 2003 Season" servers (I know its not LFS but just watch them!!!!) where they all race ovals properly and you will see how involving it actually is. The addition of the oval to LFS was nice but can't compare to an oval racing game (like the Nascar one).
In those races people actually work together on the draft and whole fields can race in tight lines, each one drafting the guy in front, dropping to the low line together to try and make up places etc. And these guys aren't even teammates.
