Oh, this could be what's needed to make LFS the best race sim around (again).

And thats bloody amazing considering the number of people working on it!

I actually cancelled my iRacing subscription in the middle of reading this. (i was going to do this anyway..)

Your spot on i think. I always found iRacing physics strange and wondered why i NEVER could get the Mazda sideways out of a slow corner. We had the same feeling there. And your Laguna observation is priceless.

But you forgot one thing. €, £, $ or whatever your currency is.

iRacing is HUGELY expensive. Both when it comes to buying cars and tracks and the subscription part.
I must have spent 200-300 € since august on it. Not worth it. And thats only on road racing. Not much oval stuff..
LFS is absolutey fantastic value for money!

I became a father in february, so simracing is on hold for a while (until the Scirocco comes out...).
But its going to be LFS when that time comes.

I wish the devs could ban all the moaners and delete all the moaning threads.

It's their sim, it's their forum. Don't like it? Bugger off.

Yes little moaner, you have paid a small fee. But you have paid for the state that LFS was in when YOU made the decision to buy.
Anything after that is a bonus.

Quote from Gills4life :oh trust me the forces when rally driving can be very rough. even painful i just concentrate so hard aiming the car where i want it to go that i just forget about it. when u are strapped into the cockpit it really feels like the car is an extension of your body, so the forces feel quite natural.. that is until you hit a tree head on.. not that i would know i am yet to crash my first rally car!

Well, i meant normal driving.
You don't normally crash into things
AND Rallying is probably a bit rougher.

:camera:They put up a film on their website yesterday.
I'm getting interviewed about 2:20 into the film (Swedish..).

Quote from Gills4life :Funnily enough i rally drive a Focus Had to take a driving assessment to get into a rally academy and i passed it quite confidently, which i owe all to Live For Speed and Richard Burns Rally. I had never driven irl before .. i went from PC to rally car in one jump Obviously neither LFS or RBR will simulate the forces on your body like in real life without a good motion simulator, but these games really do replicate the way a car behaves, extremely well. i didn't really pay much attention to the forces acting on my body anyway, i was too busy steering :rally_dri

Cool

I'll agree on the last sentence. The forces in a road car is to small to be a real factor. Driving a formula 1, that would be a different thing..

Quote from Jakg :Actually on the road cars they have MORE grip than in real life. It's just the detachment you get without G-forces that's the issue.

My thoughts to.
When you feel a bit slippery in LFS, check the speedo and wonder what it would be like in real life...

Yep, i noticed that.

Quote from SpikeyMarcoD :You would not volunteer that info either

I got som memorable reactions from the people there when they looked at my car .

The editor in chief said -"you are driving what?"

I got a drive in a Nissan 350Z with STCC-winner Thed Björk. He asked me about my car, and his reaction to my answer was:"....perfect...eehh...".

But the difference between an estate and other versions is very small IMO. I took out all the weight i could from the back, and the car was very well balanced. Just a tad understeer if you pushed to hard. As expected.
But i could actually make the go to oversteer just by coming of the gas pedal in the middle of the corner. At Mantorp turn 2 and 3 is almost one corner. But to make the car turn in at turn 3 i pushed hard out of turn 2 and when i lifted the right foot just before turn 3 the car came round nicely.

And at the end of the day i actually got some compliments for my driving. "you are driving that car pretty hard.."

Nice to hear that you relate LFS to RL too. It's not perfect, but IMO the basics are there.

Absolutely.

The FBM, i would LOVE to try that in real life!

You can see some more pics here:

And i did around 30 laps, so it was really worth every krona (1500 to be exact)

This saturday i took my stock Ford Focus to a trackday at Mantorp Park here in Sweden.

We have all driven the slower/standard cars in LFS, but what would it feel like in real life you may wonder.

I have tried it. And loved it.

And my compliments to the devs. Driving the Focus was just like in LFS. I never felt uneasy or nervous. Everything the car did was as i expected and tried in the sim. It was so easy to drive the car on the limit (with constant tire screaching ) and only one or two late braking manouvers was a bit hairy. As in the sim.

I dont have any pics of the car on the track yet, but the magazine Auto Motor & Sport in sweden will publish them soon.

Lap time? Well no lap times was recorded officially, but my friend clocked me at 1,53. A golf GTI was doing 1,49 and the faster Porches was at 1,40. STCC goes around in 1,20...

Quote from Bob Smith :Ah but you see, unlike iRentals subscription model, the one off fee means LFS generates maximum profit if you buy a licence and then start playing another game. So in that sense, people leaving won't hurt LFS. So long as there is a continuous source of fresh players to keep servers busy, of course. That potentially doesn't have good long term aspects for online driving standards, though.

iRental
Yes but i'm not going to buy S3 Alpha when its released in may 2015..

Two years from now i'm afraid i don't care. I will be driving IRacing, if this rate of development is continued .

My humble opinion is that the devs should have employed one or two more to speed up things when the whole thing really took of a few years ago.

But hey, i could be wrong. Scawen might have a surprise coming

Quote from Crashgate3 :I've had races where I've joined late and overtook someone who although slower than me, was a couple of laps ahead. As soon as I've (fairly easily and cleanly) got past them they've *immediately* spammed 'BLUE FLAG!!! LET ME PAST!!!!1111oneoneeleven'.

I tend to loose a second or two every lap just by the distraction of having someone messing with me, knowing he has no "right" to do so (being a lap behind).
You dont want to risk going of in a fight with someone getting a blue flag.

I have been criticized in the chat for being slow after i told someone he should have moved over.
But he didnt understand he was the reason i was slow.
I won the next race and he didnt comment..

If you come barging in a race late, please respect those that has been there from the start.
Its more a question of respect and being well-mannered than a RULE thing.

I think so too.

I actually have all the blueprints (A0 i think) and pics needed to make Mantorp Park since i was involved making it for Grand Prix Legends.
It was never finished, but thats another story (Our site..).

They never in any contact i had with them mentioned anything about licensing or if we had any intentions of making money out of it.
That may have changed, but for these not so big tracks, all publicity they can get for free is welcomed, i think.

Hmm..this can be tricky.

I'm so distracted by a car that clearly has no right to fight me for position that i easily lose a second or two every lap.

I really had this problem once, being the car that was a lap a head.
The lapped car made me so fed up and distracted that a was loosing about two seconds a lap.

In reality he wasnt faster than me, i had just lost some time for some reason and he closed up, cant remember why.
But when i had him in my arse (yes he bumped me a couple of times) i was driving really bad.

Then, after the race, he complained about me being slow, GUESS WHY I WAS SLOW!!

I won the next race.

Blue flag means MOVE IT! Don't even come close to the car that is ahead of you. If he crashes or loses a lot of time, then you can pass him.

In LFS you get the blue flag well before you really need to move over, so only noobs that clearly has no idea what a blue flag means can be in the way of faster cars.

Just my :twocents:
