For the record, I didn't say Java was open. I don't like it either, as I believe I said.

Secondly, C# was distributed as a portion of the .NET platform. It was developed entirely by Microsoft, in house. Anyone can submit a proprietary product as a standard. That does not make it open.

Don't believe that C# is open. A published specification does not mean an open standard. Microsoft does not give away the reigns to any technology which it relies on for it's future. .NET, C# is being banked on by Microsoft. You can be certain that they will retain an iron grip on changes or direction.

Not sure where you're coming from with the free languages. I was referring to C or C++ which are most assuredly open standards.

Yeah I believe there are comments there to disable it if you are not using Smarty templates or bitweaver. enjoy

I don't believe C# is portable.

I will never use a language that is not governed by open standards, period.

Yep, Eddie is a bit special. I saw Van Halen live 8 years ago (with Haggar). Eddie did a 15-20 minute improviastion with zero accompaniment sitting on the edge of the stage. Worth the price of admission alone.

I don't get that flash guitar stuff with very few exceptions. I find a lot of it emotionless. I'd rather listen to or play (22+ years) a sustained single note if the tone is right than listen to 4 bars of 64th notes. That's just me I guess.

Eddie I can dig because he's the grand daddy and after all these years his sound is still quite unique. Certain tracks from Satriani I can dig when he chooses his notes as destinations rather than filler. Eric Johnson is also quite good but stuff like Malsteen strikes me as rushed masturbation. To each their own though.

Here's a good Johnson track that I like (Cliffs of Dover, Live):

Quote from Skyline_Drifter_ :Any chance of a public version of that coming out? Very nice.

Most likely once I'm finished. I'm trying to make it as close as possible to the 2001 JGTC R34 car. There are a couple of decals that I can't make out from the pictures I've seen. Some of them I've had to piece together by hand and so forth.

If anyone has some links to good closeup pictures of this car it would help a lot!

Quote from mkinnov8 :No No thats great, Im just starting with Bitweaver CMS really, so just wondered.

Really nice script,

Thanks.

I'm glad you like it

FYI, if you run GTL or netKar Pro servers, the SimMonitor Bitweaver package also has monitors for those. You can check 'em out at http://www.nasrl.net

They are recognized as individual modules in the SimMonitor Package within bitweaver.

If you need a hand with the bitweaver-specific portion of this stuff I'd be glad to help with that. I don't mind helping people on the road to enlightenment (bitweaver)

Quote from mkinnov8 :Excellent! Just what I was wanting!

One question, does this release include the Bitweaver CMS Package?
Or is that seperate somewhere?

Cheers!!

Nono, that's a different thing and is not necessary. I just happen to use it, so I included support for that CMS.

There are a few lines of code that are bitweaver specific. They should be explained in comments. You can simply remove them if you are not using bitweaver. Let me know if the explanations in the files are unclear.

Hope you find it useful.

Release: PHP Dedicated Server Monitor

Current Release: 0.9.1

CHANGELOG:

==============

Version 0.9.0: June 11, 2006

- Initial Public Release
=============

Version 0.9.1: June 14, 2006

- Fixed a counter bug in poll-lfs.php
=============

This is the first public release of lfs-server-monitor, a simple php based dedicated server polling module.

The package is a collection of php scripts which poll and report the status of an LFS server. Handy for league sites! It was developed through the need to monitor the NASRL dedicated servers. I have decided to offer it up in the hopes that some might find it useful.

It is not intended to be a feature-rich application, it is intended to be a quick at-a-glace server status PHP module with some server information and a link to join the action. You are of course free to extend it.

A few functions were taken from folks here that were good enough to post useful bits of PHP.. Thanks!

Currently the script tracks and/or displays:

- LFSWorld Server Name
- Server status: up/down (Graphical LED)
- Running Track and Layout
- Players On / Maximum field
- Click-to-Join link (Join2LFS)

Features:

- This module polls the LFSWorld Master Server to gather information. It could easily be expanded to track league members, etc and other features.

- MySQL based storage of server status information.

- Extensive documentation. README, installation instructions & heavily documented code

- Comes as a standalone PHP module, or as a Bitweaver CMS Package (http:www.bitweaver.org)

- Free Software, Released under the GNU General Public Licence http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html
Portions which were donated by folks here are their own. I don;t claim ownership of any contributed code

** Please Note **
I cannot troubleshoot your website, or integration of this module into your site. That is your responsibility. I can answer any questions about the specific functions of this software.

Anyone is free to modify, redistribute and/or release derivitive works, provided the provisions of the GPL are followed.

Provisions can be made to release this software to an individual under another licence if I am contacted and agree to the conditions.
**************

Here are sample screenshots the simple module that is currently live at http://www.nasrl.net This module is live-monitoring the N.A.S.R.L LFS Server.

Server Status Down:

Server Status Up:

Future Considerations / Plans:

- Support for multiple servers. Partial support is in place but has not been tested.

- Extended Server Information Page.

- Status caching / proxy services.

Quote from St4Lk3R :erm... thx for hijacking my thread, it was not requested. if its ready, open another thread, but please stay at topic here. thanks.

? You are asking for help and I tell you that I will hand you a solution. You then tell me to get out of your thread? illepall

In case you don;t know, releasing it under the GPL means that you can take my code and do what you like with it.

To answer your question more directly, the data may need to be packed. I say "may" because I am only now begining to look at insim, though the interface to other sims usually work in a similar manner. So, give this a try:

So, where $command is the packet being sent to the server, encoding the data might look like this. The quoted digits is a string of the required characters which need to be encoded. (FYI, this is the signature of a GTL direct to dedicated server "send me a status packet" comand):

# HEX signature fot the GTL search packet
$command = pack("H*",'47544c5f4469726563745f49505f53656172636800');

I will be making an LFS plugin for an existing php web module for server monitoring on legaue sites. (see sample image below)

The module incudes the network interface to the dedicated server, mysql database storage / integration, as well as a generic php sidebar moduel as described.

Much of the back end code is alreday done, so it shouldn't take a long time for me to finish. The initial release will cover this featureset, with the possibility of expanded features later on.

It will be released under the GNU GPL. Here's a little shot of how it is implemented at my league site (for GTL)

Quote from Becky Rose :Sorry Leachman, but your suggestion is less secure. The reason is you are still thinking traditional server/client. For true security you need to think backwards. It's this backward thinking that makes my way more secure, plus makes it easy to setup for my customers - just open the program and click (these are the key features I need).

You are thinking about authentication systems and password encryption and verification like somebody who works on big systems and networks. Perfectly understandable, but it means you are approaching the problem of security from the traditional direction, which to me is backwards, because I think out of the box.

You are saying that no authentication is better than authentication. You must work for a very small company with no overisght on your work. I would fire any employee of mine who placed the company and our customers at risk like that.

I am sorry, I tried to help you but this is going nowhere. I considered explaining why the above is exactly counter to a sane approach but I'm not going to bother. You realize that (without telling us much) you have informed us exactly how to compromise your solution?

EDIT: Just wanted to clarify something Becky. I'm not trying to attack you. Use what you like the RDP / VNC thing makes no difference. But for your own sake, consider having the service require a password at least. Good luck.

I came across this thread while looking for dedicated server / insim documentation, and noticed a few things being discussed on other issues.

For the curious, RDP was actually developed by Citrix, which was a breakaway group of OS/2 Egineers from IBM. They licenced the NT 3.51 source code for 350k and hacked up a console mux to emulate a multi-user environment like UNIX. It has been refined over time and is now quite mature, though windows will never really be multi-user without a complete rewrite. Citrix sold terminal services back to Microsoft for several hundred million dollars.

The real gem here is the ICA protocol which is extremely light, secure, supports encryption as well as OS hooks for authentication and authorization incuding PKI, LDAP or any other native authentication and authorization technology.

Now, I'm a UNIX guy for years and have been building multi-platform development environments since the early 90s, so I'm definitely not coming from a perspective of a microsoft fan. The RDP protocol is a world beater. VNC is free and OK for home use, but nobody working for me would be using it in a production environment. Were I the customer, I would be sure that authentication ties into some LDAP implementation or other, using the ICA protocol if remote console was necessary.

Then again if the customer needs someone to remote control their boxes for support purposes, they're screwed anyways, they just don't know any better. Do yourself a favour and require authentication. You don't need the responsibility of an incident falling squarely into your lap when it is discovered that you left a welcome mat on your customer's machines. Believe me, if there is an incident, it WILL land with you rather than the company. Having the cute invite required thingy is great, but dont bet your job on it.

I think the profiler referred to is the 3d graphics profiler for your video drivers, not for your controller.

As for the pre-rendered frames and ATI users, I recommend two things:

1) Use the Omega Drivers (driverheaven.net)
2) Install ATI Tray Tools (linked to when getting the omega drivers)

In the tray tools application, adjust the directx pageflip option, this is the equivalent option. It will likely help with this if you are experiencing input lag.

I also remember seeing a couple of people reporting some trouble (crontoler lag) that cleared itself after moving from 1280x1024 to 1280x960 (which is proper aspect anyways).
