Flight Simulator X has a system that uses the mousewheel for throttle in the exact manner in which I'm stating. With good coding and tweaking I'm sure it's possible.
However, the entire point of my topic, is the fact that you can get REAL control over your car. Not just clicks, like 10, 20, 30, 40% .etc with a click wheel. However, would be better than nothing.
Let's say some unfortunate fellow like myself doesn't have a joystick or a wheel. I use the mouse. Now how would someone like me with the mouse, stay at a constant 50mph? Well, I'd tap the mouse over and over and over.
What could be done to give more precise control?
The mousewheel.
Make it so the mousewheel acts as a pedal. Moving the mousewheel up a certain amount increases acceleration. Move it to the max (maybe a whole flick) and it simulates full throttle.
Same could be done for braking, could be incorporated so that the mousewheel fully controls accel/braking.
Look at this picture here:
I have a scroll wheel on my keyboard too, wouldn't have to flick on my mouse, so I could have perfect control of the car while accelerating in the left hand and steering with the right.
Well, guess the minority doesn't count then? Perhaps not, but the offer is still there, I could design and build this track, not like it would take much time at all from the dev's to brief me on how to properly group/lod the track .etc.
I don't care about being a dev or anything, just want a "fun" track like the one that's already there just less flat and more sophisticated.
Not exciting at all of course, we could just have a top speed-o meter to calculate instead.
lol.
Sometimes I don't understand how some people cannot get a simple point understood. I thought my sarcasm would kind of bump you in the right direction. LFS is a driving simulator, not a text-based racing game. Yes, it would be handy to have tools that told you top speeds .etc. Though is it really fun? Perhaps maybe YOU find it boring to floor it and hear the wind, the engine pushing against it for a whole minute, the gears changing .etc though have you considered, that a great deal of people would like that?
I assume if you watched the top gear episode with the Veyron on the high speed coarse, you'd probably be yawning from boredom, sucks to be you?
Has anyone here seen the episode of (something) where an English woman takes a really old Mercedes diesel, and tests its durability .etc .etc. She takes it on a special road track which "ages" the vehicle, different series of bumps, and other odd obstacles.
Then if you note in Top Gear, they test out the Bugatti Veyron on the "secret road course" which is extremely long, long enough to test the top speed of the Veyron, and oodles of space to spare.
Some may say "What's the point of a track like that, you only have short length tracks with no horrible bumps." The point is, why limit the dev's amazing physics system to a flat road, or at most, the blackwood rallycross with that big hump?
I don't know, I've been going nuts to see something like that.
Well, I know people have wanted one for a really long time, there have been posts made before, and one by myself.
I don't know how busy you developers get, though I have 7+ years of 3D Max/Photoshop under my belt, and was wondering, could I make one? Of course it would have to be "approved" though I'm willing to take whatever steps are necessary. You guys have an amazing physics system with the vehicles, to be able to test it out further for me has been a dream ever since I started to play LFS.
Just my 2 cents, if I'm wandering in a pointless direction just say so, thanks.
EDIT: Oh yes, this would be free of course I don't charge for my work. (just in case someone asks)
I mean, wouldnt it be great to take a proper SUV out on a more bumpy rallycross track?
I wish LFS had more racing styles, the physics are too amazing to keep on sports cars alone. No other game can offer nearly as advanced physics as LFS has. I'm not saying sports cars are bad, but tell me one game where you have physics realism of this magnitude. I think it needs to spread to other classes of vehicles.
I simply cannot do proper speed setups with this quarter mile....
Does anyone know if the devs are going to make like a 5 mile long test track, or a long oval, anything? Any tweaks available? Anything?
I get pretty bored on a day to day basis and I like to tweak cars in LFS, either properly, or with LFS tweak, but I need a runway! I've been watching too much Top Gear and the recent episode with the Bugatti Veyron is making me go crazy, I must duplicate something fun like that!
since my friends dont have a mouse with more than two buttons, what can they use to press that doesnt make that anoying boop.....boopboopboopboopboopboopboopboop noise.
thanks.
EDIT: I mean over Ventrilo or Teamspeak, we like to use push to talk and need a non-annoying button, that when pressed, does not make that wierd noise.
Your eye will notice differences in FPS from 0-30. Anything beyond 30FPS will look exactly the same (Running smooth). Although some video cards have faults, and with high FPS you may notice the game go into fast forward every now and then. I would recommend you use Vsync. It's possible the game is running the same, and your FPS is lower. Just because your FPS is lower, does not mean your game is running half the speed.
