I have a semi-offtopic suggestion.
This patch will introduce a new screen with the mod cleanup. On this screen we have a date column currently in "DD/MM/YY" format.
It would be nice if a translator could change the date format using a new translation field (like tx_ prefixed fields for language setup).

In most cases I personally prefer long date formats (like ISO 8601 date format, eg.: 2023-07-23), but to keep things simple, I am just asking for a 3+1 or 8 character wide date format specifier with three possible letters: "YMD", and separators: "/.-".

Example with 3+1 characters: "DMY/" or "YMD." (this notation is very unusual, but could be enough for order specification, but maybe a better idea to define two new fields: one for order specification, and one for the separator character)

Example with 8 characters: "DD/MM/YY" or "YY.MM.DD"

This change will not break the length of the current UI labels.

Here is a useful link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_format_by_country

The fact that we currently have the same kind of date columns/fields on some other places makes this suggestion as semi-offtopic. (e.g. replays, file chooser dialogs, mods screen). So, it's absolutely fine if this post will be moved to offtopic. I have realized this localization issue just now when checking modification dates on the mods screen.

Hi Scawen,
I am back again!
Sorry, as I see I missed your last post here, but I would like to thank you for noticing an unfinished translation.
Some weeks ago I blew off the dust from my S2 folder. (Maybe I had a presentiment of the upcoming patch. :-) )
So I updated almost the whole language pack:
- I updated the commands.txt and the autocross.txt under \docs
- I finished the remaining lessons.

And a new thing: Victor put on live the Hungarian translations of lfs.net yesterday. Smile
Good to see the progress, new site, redesigned track of Westhill and new features.
Congrats to each of you!

Hi MandulAA,
Sorry about the huge late. I can't remember exactly, but I think I didn't noticed your post in the past. I have already corrected the first issue, it was a simple typo. Occasionally I used to do a full spell check with LibreOffice on the whole translation.
( And I think it doesn't really matter where you live ;-) )
You mentioned a second isssue:
On the right side of the "Screen" options screen I have to use an abbreviated word, because the "Billenyű hozzárendelése (SHIFT +)" text is too long. Maybe I can ask Scawen to extend the length of this field (3a_keyshpls). But I think the abbreviated form is also unambiguous.

There is an another and a bit older thread, named as Hungarian Language Pack. In the past it was hard to reach that thread with the old forum engine, because it was hidden by default (because the last comment was too old). Usually I use that thread to submit update packages for Scawen.
Now we have two thread with similar subjects. May I ask you to rename this thread?
For example: "Hungarian translation - problems & suggestions" or something similar?
In the future I dont want to bother Scawen with similar discussions like this.

About Wikipedia: Look, I never said “I don't want”. I think you should read again my posts in Hungarian forum.
Of course the number of users does not have affect on quality of translation. (Not directly.) But more people can see more mistakes, and they submit more suggestions. This works like open source projects.

Sorry about the huge late, but I can't spend any time for LFS, especially in examination period.

Ok. Main and help files are excluded from update package.
In future I will upload two files:
- LFS_S2_xxx_HUN_update.zip for you, this file contains only docs and lessons.
- LFS_S2_xxx_HUN_main.zip for language testers, this file contains only main and help texts.

Update and main packs are attached.

Please extend the length of 3g_x_x_mile by 2 characters. (3g_x_x_mile %s : %.1f mérföld)

Thanks.

You asked me what is "I18N/L10N". I am certain that you know what are these:
These are abbreviations : I18N = Internationalization L10N = Localization.
Programmers are sometimes too lazy to write too long words...
... and several months ago: "What holds the rctPnts[] array??"

Back to the subject:
In a mail I wrote some things about I18N, I found it in C++Builder's help: (I hope I will not violate copyrights)

"English text is almost always shorter than its translations. Design the elements of your user interface that display text so that there is room for the text strings to grow."
...
"Avoid abbreviations—they do not exist in languages that use ideographic characters."
"Short strings tend to grow in translation more than long phrases.

Length of English string (in characters) / Expected increase
1-5 / 100%
6-12 / 80%
13-20 / 60%
21-30 / 40%
31-50 / 20%
over 50 / 10%"

Yes. I know it is made for app programmers, not for game makers, but I think it is useful when you design an UI.

I have updated the pack (and now added the keys pdf) for patch U.

About the notification: when I edit/update a previous post (in this case the first post) you also get a notification? (or I have to always create a new post for "generate" a notification like this post)
