With a full field of cars, on any track, I can average about 80+FPS, if not having it peak at 110. I have a 2.0Gig AMD with 1Gig of ram, and an ATI 9550 with 256 megs. And @ 1280x768 res.
I think the only differences I see are the zbuffer and Yes to 1/2 texture size.

Becky, since about the last 8 hours or so, when I click on the Forum link on the STCC page, I get this error : Error: Unable to connect to MySQL server. MySQL reported: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2).
Not too sure if this is on my end or the forums' server.

Im thinking about an attempt to make a Drift skin, not for myself but just to make one that someone might like. My question is what is the popular car for it, and if anyone would like anything special, I.e. logos or such. I believe I have finally figured out how to make "tears" in the skins, so thats what I have in mind.

One quick fix for the clock is similiar to what I do with the wifes glowing green clock on the dash of our car: ELECTRICAL TAPE OVER THAT SUCKER.

Quote from Bob Smith :A little coast lock is useful, as it will help stability with little or no detrement to cornering speed. Too much basically adds understeer which will just slow you down - but if you can't keep the car in a straight line, it is necessary. Although, that's mainly because some other part of the setup is borked.

Wasn't this thread to do with suspension? Oh well...

Yes, I do believe it was . But why start another thread?

OK, heres skin #4. Kudos to Rare White Ape for pointing me in the right directions with Adobe. I still have aways to go, but Im getting there.

PS Rare, I got another pvt msg from you, but its a repeat of the 1st one?

PPS. Went thru this forum 2day, and see this was done already . No sweat tho, mines the ChampCar version, not Sennas'. Plus the experience gathered by doing that will yield benefits. I see some people want a ToroRosso. If I can find a decent pic and shave my head so I stop pulling out the hair, Ill give it a go.

Quote from Gentlefoot :Yeah - the percentages generally refer to the amount of locking. i.e. a 75% locking diff will allow 25% of slip.

So the balancing act is between traction on exit of corners and snatchy power oversteer. You'd probably want to avoid a high locking % when the important corners on the track have maybe a slight dip on the exit that encourages the rear wheels to spin up.

In your opinon, if Im running Blackwood Gp in the FZR with a lsd set at 40/60, what am I expecting? When I had it at 50/80 I could not turn easy, such as the end of the back straight. Also in that corner under braking, the car would not turn. I have run many many laps there, and have had it set at 50/80 and can turn 1:08.xx laps pretty regularly. All things being equal, including my driving, what would say 20/40 lead to? Or 70/30? Having to modulate the throttle more while exiting or accel. away from the apex? I have seen what the hotlap sets are, and can not get a handle on the locks. I know Bob always says run what makes it comfortable to drive, and I have, even understanding what subtle changes in the rebound and bumps have done for cornering grip. Is it really just a lack of experience that I cant run 1:06.xx on that track, or is it more along setups still? I also run about 9/18 on downforce. Hot laps sets are lower, but when you reduce downforce you also have to make susp changes to compensate for the reductions. Not sure what Im actually looking for for an answer, maybe more or less Im just looking to get some feedback from others that have been where Im at now, and to see where to turn to next.

Quote from MAGGOT :Just finished up my new personal Helmet Spent 5 or 6 hours on this over the last two days. All the visor details and hardware were made by me, as are all the rest of the graphics. Thanks to Bunta for the skin kit and the OWL Helmets logo I've uploaded the template to the Skin Templates thread for anyone who wants it. It contains the visor details and custom vents in the front of the helmet (different from the ones on my personal skin).

Please let me know what you think

Awesome cap, looks like it could double for full contact Hockey with Machine guns as well

Quote from manintightpants :Nice skin MagicMarker, good idea, but it does still look a bit wip. Maybe you could put a few more sponsers onto it?

There are no other sponsors on it other than the 2 I mentioned leaving off.
And for the front diffuser, I agree, but was color blind last night while doing it. Dont forget, I did leave it easily modifiable for others to do.
The only decent pic I found was here

If you are asking me to make a skin for you with logos, that I can do, just lemme know what ones you'd like.
IROC Skin

OK, so after watching the IROC event tonight, I got to working on a skin for the 30th ann. of it. Since IROC started on Porsches', and the FZR is based loosely on one, this is what I came up with. Should be easy enough for you racers to change the colors and add your own numbers
I know the GoodYear Logos are missing, mostly because the game doesnt have them, I prefer Michelin, and didnt want to lock people into that design. Also the logo from the rear quaterpanels, I "assumed" it was Action, but could not find a picture to verify it, or a decal anyways.

Quote from sgt.flippy :Thank you very much about the comment on my skin, and if I can find a design that I like I'll make it.. But I haven't found any one I like yet, with enough pics.

On another note I went to the races today, and I saw the real car now, it was great!

I wish I could help you with the tools, but I use Paint Shop Pro 9.1

I saw you driving too, the skin you were using was good, but now I think you didn't made it yourself Well, to be honest, all the bends that are on my skin... I found out how to make them when I was making it I use vectors for it, and just click away nicely curved, and then I make them assymetric so they bend nicely and if something isn't how I want it, I toy a bit with it.

Heh, oh no driver, I did make the Monster skin all by my lonesome. Nothing too fancy actually, if you notice, nothing wrapped around curves or other "layers". I got hooked on the colors, and still cant make curves or other shapes other than lines so far, and I just kept it simple. When I get a little better with Adobe, I will attempt #3 skin. In fact, maybe Ill work on it now, and see what it gets me, other than :chairfalland :arge:.

Quote from MAGGOT :Which version of PSP are you using? And do you mean Paintshop Pro or Photoshop? (A lot get them confused it seems

I use PSP7 a lot for my skins, and this is how I create a lot of my curves:
- Click the Draw tool
-Press 'T' to open the Tool Options palette
-From the dropdown on the first tab, select 'Bezeir Curve'
-Click and hold and drag to create a line, then release the mouse button
-Click again and hold, and drag and youll see a little line coming off of the other one from the first point. Dragging curves the line.
-Doing the above step a second time creates a line coming off of the second point to refine the curve (or create an 'S' curve if you wish)

Takes a little practice and tries to get the line you want, but if you are not working in Photoshop, this is the best way to do it in PSP that I've found. I don't know if/how this method works in other versions of PSP, though.

Its actually Adobe Photoshop CS Version 8, if thats any help to you. When I hit T, the TYPE tool opens up, but I think I might locate the Curve you are refering to, I know that MS Paint has it, and what Im using must as well. Lemme check. Holy geez I got it, its a little different, but I can draw straight lines, and add curves to them. My next problem will be to figure out how to use the new lines to "mask"? an area, so I can fill one side of it in a new color. So far, it just fills the entire jpeg in the color, lemme try it with a skinnerz pro and work with the layers. Hmm, I will have to work on this area, unless someone has a quicker idea. Thanks for the help MAGGOT, everyday is one day closer to catching up with you guys.

The biggest problem with the Help file or even searching the 'net, is that Im not quite sure what to actually google. I know what I want to do, but not to sure about the commands they would call it, or even remotely have a guess.

And to throw my 2 cents into the ring here, I have read about all of this thread. I and my brother have just gotten this game about 2 weeks now. We both have seen the turn one melee, and been victims of it. We both try to stay clear of it, and hang back and develop our laps and setups with each other and watch incar views of the top drivers to see what makes them fast. There have been times Ive managed to go from last to 1st in turn 1, but when the faster drivers do catch up, I will always yield to them. I know realistically for now, we can not run with the "Big Dogs", not yet anyways . Some rooms tho, some of the "senior" drivers have a tendancy to just break out the noob word, without taking the 30 seconds to basically explain to them, you cant win the race in turn one, but you can lose it there. I hope you guys understand this, and will not mind racing with us, and understanding that yes, we will make mistakes, but nothing intentional on our parts has ever been done to wreck the top guys.
And while we are on it, how about people that right after a wreck, get right back into the race line @ 30 mph? That should be another post...

Quote from keiran :There's lots of debris off the line at the start of a Grand Prix. F1 isn't the only race of the weekend, there's many different classes racing around that track.

Rosberg lost the line, you have no right to the corner once your off the line. Montoya had him into the braking zone and Rosberg acknowledged this by giving Montoya room, at this point Rosberg had lost the line and should have yielded. I think Rosberg had a lot of weight on his shoulders after ruining Webbers lap and just tried to hold in there.

What are you taking about, the only damage done was to the nose. The reason he retired was because he hit `the wall of champions.`

It amazes me how people complain and complain about the lack of overtaking and how the drivers don't take enough risks. Yet when Montoya is charging he becomes stupid and overly aggressive.

When I race, I race aggressively in real life and in LFS (although only with people I know who will respond correctly in LFS). That's part of the thrill of racing is having a hard thought out battle.

Keiran

I will retract my statement about the damage to Montoyas' car, you were right about the wall of champs. causing his terminal damage. But based on the pics posted in the next page, clearly Rosberg was still ahead of him, and Juan jumping the curbs and having no choice but to turn into Rosberg was the cause of that. And I will say that was racing, tride and true. Agressive, but simply a racing accident. I was abit miffed tho, kinda hoped that Canada was going to be a good weekend for the kid. Thats all, please dont take offense to my posts that day.

Quote from al heeley :Captain Slow, you are supposed to post it in the XF skins section.

Magic marker: you need to learn the marquee tool and the pen tool. Have a work thru some of the basic photoshop tutorials to be found on the web - that will help you get into photoshop really fast.

Like my post above says, where to find the time to learn everything . But I will eventually. I did finally figure out how to make angled lines. Felt kinda dumb after I saw how easy it was, but hey, the days wasted if you dont learn something.

Quote from sgt.flippy :On the subject of those lines matching, I can tell you, that's a very annoying work to do, especially (learned from experience) on the FZR. Look in the FZ skin thread, my McDonalds skin, it was VERY hard to match up those yellow linings on the car.

Would like some comments on that too, it's like everyone just ignores me I really have put a lotta work into that skin, it so sucks nobody gives any comment on it, good or bad.

Let me tell you, about 2 days ago you and I were racing. And youre skin so far is one of the tops Ive seen. I like it, for what its worth. I know what you mean about decals matching up, as for my car I started this post with. My newest creation isnt anything fancy, but its slowly getting there. Hard to work on learning tracks, figuring out setups, staying out of the way of faster drivers, and learning PSP all at once. And still working 8 hours a day to boot I do look forward to your next piece of art.
