Quote from felplacerad :Hi.

No, the latest version is U.

Hint: When in doubt, head on over to http://www.liveforspeed.net/ and check the top-left corner.

the real latest released version would be U15, but it's a test patch, so maybe it's better to wait for V
how do you get the test patch ?
thanks
So what are the benefits to running a test patch other than to help the developers bug check it?

I take it you can race against people using U1 - U16+ even though there may be some differences between the games. Is that true?
new features, fixes, .. can join servers... etc.

i mean.. its an update, dont tell me you dont want to update the game? its being made right infront of your eyes.. its not like this is windows update stuff that will BSOD your computer
I'm cetain that one of the patches has temprarily broken LFS for someone. It is the nature of test patches. That isn't my main concern though.

Can you elaborate on "joining servers"? That is my main hang-up about running a test patch. I know that V servers no longer show up on my U version of LFS. Are all U1x servers and clients compatible no matter which test patch you are running?
i think the latest U15 isn't compatible with the rest of the servers, so im not sure

theres nothing wrong with something bad happening like LFS crashing etc. i doubt you'll get those problems, but not getting the latest and then having problems.. you might not be able to be helped; when scawen does these fast patches its best to test it, because if you DO have a problem he can usually fix it, but if you get latest patch after all the test patches and find out that it doesnt work.. you might have to wait some time
All the test patches are compatable with the current stable patch. They are basically U with bits added on read the start of the thread for the update list. You may occasionally get issues running a test patch, if you do post in the thread and things will be fixed, in the mean time just re download and install the normal patch U and everything will be fine again.

Major things in the U test patches atm are probably:

Control scripts - text files to allow special control configs on a per car basis, not looked into them yet.

File associations - open replays by double clicking them. Opening layouts automatically copies them into the correct folder, this is really useful.

New virtual dash for FO8 and BF1 when the steering wheel is disabled.

As XCNuse said it's important lots of people do test things as the Devs will never be able to test LFS over such a range of really weird setups. The open testing is probably a major reason why LFS has virtually no stories of compatability issues on systems that should be able to run it fine (or crashing menus mentioning no names SimBin ).
