The other night I upgraded my CPU from and AMD Athlon 3000+ to a X2 4400 and when I started up LFS I was back to Demo racer. I'm guessing it looks at processor ID (maybe other stuff aswell).

Is that normal?

Yes, it is normal. You should have a spare unlock available. Log in to your account on the website, it should be an option there somewhere.
