Brand-Licenses? TIME HAS COME FOR A CHANGE
heya, i think the time has come for a CHANGE...
no dev of any game will pay in future money for licenses in racing buizz.
even big E.A. stop their license way/ make it only a lil part in their market (only maybe in FIFA series).

so i think LFS is a very good place to do commercials for brands.
car-brands f.ex. PORSCHE or FERRARI could use LFS to do promotion for their cars (like TEAM SAUBER did) and give LFS permission to create their cars in game, or to have coke commercials or earl gray tea (f.ex. english track) whatever

nobody needs licenses to have fun at lfs-races, i dont care if i drive FZ50 there or Porsche Carrera, so no one of the dev should spend 1 ct. to licenses, but its a good way for car-brands to make their cars public and get fans of their cars.
brands like renault, peugeot, seat had image change last years, they now seems kinda fresh, stylish, trendy. so what to get fans for some of their cars ?!

why always talkin bout fookin money? LFS is a place to have no cost commercials to possible customer... if i race f.ex. leon cupra ingame and it races that hot, i become fan and wanna buy that car in real... just example

U WANT TO PROMOTE YOUR BRAND OR CAR?

SEND YOUR BRAND GRAPHICS / CAR PHYSICS TO OUR DEVS

WE WILL RACE YOUR BRAND, AND POSSIBLY BUY IT...

So, your point is...?
germans...
It's true. I raced the BMW Sauber F1.06 in LFS and just last night I bought myself one.

Sarcasm aside, I can see where you're coming from MoonForce. Unfortunately it's kind of the dev's decision

On a vaguely similar tack, has anyone approached Noble or vice versa?

Quote from thisnameistaken :And if it's regularly beaten by a competitor's car, the manufacturer is going to squeeze the developer and say "Hey, make my car faster".

Thats what i was thinking. Thats probs why buying the licence to use the car is simpler.

Random idea: What if everyone (forum wise) votes for a car they want in the game, real world one. The one that gets most votes, the devs look into and see how much it'll cost and then people on the forum donate as much as they want/can untill the price is achieved. Altho this idea is flawed (licencing may cost thousands, people might moan at something (someone usualy does) blah blah etc etc) but its an idea.

Also, is it not worth the devs droping an e-mail to a few manufactures? The least they can get in reply is "No" or "It'll cost XXX" and if someone says yes, wheey, new car. And e-mails dont cost anything so no money is lost in the process (unless they already have asked around?)

hankstar voted to ban CAPS LOCK press [1]

Since this idea's already under discussion in two threads in two separate forums, I don't see the reason for another new thread. Especially one that's shouting at everyone like it's the first one to mention this idea. It's too early in the morning! Shush!

sorry if this is a double post, i just think this worx...
The LFS devs have not paid a cingle cent for any license thus far for LFS. Every license in LFS was made when the company approached the LFS devs, not from the devs approaching another company. It always led to dead ends, no company they approached wanted in on it.

Ferrari and Porsche don't need advetising in a racing game. Everyone knows who they are, and what they do. Smaller companies (like the one that made the RaceAbout) can use this publicity. I say we all email Ariel and get them to approach the devs about getting the Atom in LFS. Theyre a small company that could possibly use the exposure.

Do you mean the guy that makes sportscars made out of mondeo bits, or the one who did the supersonic torpedo with 2 phantom jet engines?

either way, i like the idea

IMHO licencing is fine as long as it doesn't cost the dev's any money, or compromise their freedom to do what they see fit. You might get one or two manufacturers on board but sooner it's gonna lead to needless legal complications that i'm sure Scavier want to avoid.

It's nice to see a small sportscar company represented in LFS, and it'd be nice to see more, I really don't give a shit if it's not got ferrari written on it, they don't need any support from LFS, nor does LFS need the their support.
Interesting isnt it, people think that the Dev team arent capable of making something exactly the same as a real life car but without the real life complications.
Look at all the cars, they might not be replica's but they're familiar peices of specific types of cars.
For your Ferrari/ Porsche, you have the FZ5, the Renault/Peugeot/seat you have the XFG.
Did anyone need to ask permissions, any complications, messy contract negotiations or confirmation delays etc? No.

If things with the BMW Sauber didnt materialise, do you think there wouldnt have been an F1 car in LFS at some stage or another?

Theres just far so many complications involved with real life manufactures, agreeing to allow it to happen, making an accurate model, getting accurate handling feedback etc
Alternative... make your own, ask nobody, no waiting at checkpoints for the thumbs up on the latest changes, just get it done.

I'd love real cars in there, but whats the point, people will only moan if car A is faster than car B, why they didnt use model X instead, and it leads to more people expecting real cars in LFS.

hmm that is a good point, but not that what i wanted
i dont need porsche in lfs, but i would love to see things like RAC or MRT more in LFS, i just meant other car comp. could follow same way
Oh well, EA is going to lose all it's "exclusive" licenses in the next couple of years (maybe as soon as 2007), because they came up with yet another tactic that screams "Challenge everything, and especially your customer's loyalty".

Already NASCAR and the NFL have expressed their concern about their official licenses not being worth much if EA will continue to stop online support for their titles after one year.

EA being one of the big spenders on licensing, that would do wonders for licensing fees in games.
...and there I go dreaming of the possabilites of LFS getting real life cars, with a little sponsorship from car companies who know very well lfs will uberly promote their cars.

I think 1 of the real specialty cars (Koinsegg, Ariel) would be good because:
1) small car maker = more likely to be placed into a specialty game sort of world
2) Benefits to both partys, Brand Awareness for the cars and increased sales of LFS
3) Cross promotion, have maybe for buying one of the cars, get a free S* licence or a free specialty demo/licence containing only that car (not hard to do, have unique vouchers that you must tie to an account that restricts unlocking to x car)

We (LFS'ers) just need to really get the Devs interested in it, and then approach a car maker with info on how much they want for licencing, and if the price seems feasble, we should throw a fundraiser for it, becuase I'm sure that out of the LFS community, depending on the car we would contribute atleast a few € (or $ or <insert currency here>). We just need to get a car maker interested, heck offering the limited demo might even make them more likely to lower licencing seeing their consumers would get something directly from the deal.

The guy with Monedo engines, turbochargers and plastic wings and stuff
I don't know how Brands could make the game better! We don't need any brands cause U can't really read them while focusing on racing!!!!

I think it's OK like it is!!!!!! (That's one of the reasons why I like LFS!!!)) No stupid mainstreamshit, please!!
