two parallel system - LFS needs unlock every time ?
Hello

I have installed a parallel system with WinXP on my computer.
This way I have a clean system with better performance, I only use it for games.
I found that I have to unlock LFS again every time I change from system A to system B.

a) Is there a possibility to avoid this ? All other games make no problems at all, though none of them has the unlock-system of LFS.

b) is there a limit of how often I can unlock while changing between my systems (same computer) ? I read somewhere you only have three unlocks a month, is this also in this case ?

I don't think so, but I'm sure others can give a better answer.

You start with 3 unlocks. Each month you get a new unlock, but can only have a total of 3 (or two?) unlocks at any time.

I wonder actually why I have to unlock
LFS doesn`t write itself into the registry, and the PC-components are exactly the same in both systems.
How does LFS realize it has to unlock, if it`s the same PC ?

very weird to me :/

The only difference is that one system has Win XP Service Pack 2 and the other has not. Could this be the reason ?

P.S.: if the only solution is to by a second license, I would do so, though I think that this would really be a letdown. Even with Microsoft I have no problems to run the same copy of Windows XP on my PC in two systems.

Another question : Can I use the same LFS-installation for both systems if I have two accounts then ? So in System A I am gloom and in system B I am gloom2 or such ? Or would this be something that LFS doesn`t do ?

Some answers would be great as I have a league race tonight and am currently out of unlocks :/
Rather than LFS writing something into the registry, I think LFS has a look at 'windows' and records something from it. If that 'something' changes, it locks LFS again.

Therefore, each time you change operating system it checks windows and goes 'aha, you've reinstalled - LOCKED'.

If you only ever use LFS.exe on one operating system, does the problem go away?

Sure then there is no problem.
What I want to do (As I do in other games as well) is play on the clean system only and maybe watch a replay or so on the other system, which doesn`t work atm due to the LFS unlock thing.
You can have 2 copies of LFS. One unlocked on OS1 and the other unlocked on OS2. Sure, you'd need to manually copy across replays etc, and you'd have to make sure you ran the right one (LFS Clean, LFS Work or whatever you use the two for) otherwise it'll lock itself again.

If no other solution is offered (devs ?) I will have to do so :/

Well, for some people the online-purchasing-licensing thing also has negative aspects. When you buy a DVD and there`s a key in it as it is with other games, it makes things a lot more easy in my case.

Am I the only one with parallel systems on one machine ?

I will now try to use two installations of LFS, but only with one account, hopefully this works then. My last hope before buying it a second time.
A separate LFS for each OS should work yes. One LFS for two OS's won't, because LFS will think it's on another computer each time.
I'm actually a big fan of the online unlocking system. It prevents piracy (or, at least makes is much harder). All you need is an internet connection.

I'm sure that, when the day comes several years in the future, that the LFS Devs decide to move on, a more conventional key system will be introduced so that game can still be played without LFS.net. On the same point, I'm sure Scawen will make a new server system so that the Master Server isn't required. But that day is a LONG way off I think. LFS is gonna be supported and getting better for several more years yet.

With rFactor, GTR et al, do you think in 2 years time there will be official support? I doubt it. Those responsible will have moved on to rFactor 2 (or whatever).
it works now, thx

well, I believed LFS would check due to the hardware-surroundings if it was on a new pc or now and not by the software-surroundings.

the way it is, easily several people could share an LFS license, only not drive only at the same time.
