Since it uses 99% cpu regardless of the settings, I found the stuttering to become less when alt-tabbing, control alt delling, and setting the TDU priority to 'above normal'.. Without, even MSN in the background can cause slight stutters.

Odd though, very much CPU *and* gfx limited. Normally when you look at an (empty) sky you see framerate really increase.. here it barely goes above the 'normal driving' framerate.. Yet increasing resolution does slow it down.. So its both cpu and gpu limited.

My cpu scores between the Fx53 and Fx55 in Sisoft Sandra, and I get 5400 3dMark05, which is all quite fair for the specs of my machine. It runs an old version of Netkar Namie at 999fps... :P

North west there is one house at end of mountain road that you can buy, when starting from there I got even 50fps, but if I did drove down, drove bit in city and drove back I got only 30fps until I restarted game when it could be 50 or 25fps depending from position of moon or something

Imo, it has too many do nothing loops in chain
you know waht the best thing about this game is ? they havent even fixed the uninstaller
lmao, some peeps are gonna be pissed about that.
Quote from JTbo :Nobody knows really, they are more simple for sure as PS2 is too weak. Look how in this thread people are having problem running game with good hardware on PC, PS2 is quite weak system already so they must make it really simplified.

So how exactly would making the physics more un-realistic make it "simplified"?

I might just get it for PC anyways, since i play LFS a lot more than GT4 and Enthusia combined. Why does that make sence? My computer is in my room, and the PS2 is in the family room, so its a pain in the ass to move my wheel and pedals and cables. Plus, with PC, i can use Prt Scrn to capture good pictures, if the graphics are as good as people say they are
Quote from Sketchyrollin564 :So how exactly would making the physics more un-realistic make it "simplified"?

No, it is not making them unrealistic, they already are unrealistic, but they make it even more simplified to use less processing power and that can't lead any more realistic results

:ices_rofl Shipping version having still same uninstaller bug, that is class, they really should quit business and go back to school or something

I guess they knew about issue? It will cause windows not to able start, nothing big eh?
Quote :Greeting TDU Beta Testers,

This email is to inform you of a bug in the Test Drive Unlimited uninstaller from the Open Beta Test. If you plan on uninstalling Test Drive Unlimited, please be sure to back-up (or move) any "loose" personal files you may have stored in the c:\ root directory on your computer.

There is an issue where the uninstaller may attempt to remove files in the c:\ root directory that are NOT in a folder or are NOT protected by windows.

It would be mighty interesting to see how it would play out in court when someone sued the TDU devs because its uninstallation program removed his precious files

Basically all that EULA stuff about is pretty meaningless anyways. It is not exactly legal to say that "any damage caused to your computer system is not our fault...". It is like selling tomatoes; "the tomatoes may or may not include small rocks or cyanide, eat with care". I guess the hardest part is to prove the it was TDU's uninstaller that caused the hassle, not any other of the 100+ programs that reside on your hd

Wasn't it just that the case with starforce. I remember Kegetys posting here something about the starforce having a "competition" about giving a prize to the one who manages to prove that starforce is bad/evil/both. But with the vague conditions no one succeeded...
Just think on the bright side... Atleast TDU doesn't use Starforce...
Tried it, actually quite like it TBH, performance isn't tooooo bad, it's certainly driveable, but it suffers the same, stutter because it's loading a lot of data because its a huge world problem, just like MSFS does.

If the performance was better it would be a very fun game.
I now run it at 800x600 with 4x AF, solving most of the 'smudged' looks I had.. My 6800GT actually runs at Ultra speeds stable. (well 420 1080 vs the Ultra which is 400/1100) I did some gamepad driving and it was somewhat ok, mostly above 35fps in cockpit.

I'm still not accepting this as err.. acceptable. Far Cry is an old game now but why can I run that at 4x the pixels (1600x1200 high detail) with frames never dropping below 50, often being 70+? Why, at a quarter the pixels and really not THAT special gfx does TDU run at half the framerate? I would probably need to run Far Cry at 2500x1600 to get that!

Anyway, I bought a Z06 505hp. Auto clutch is SLOOOW! So I assigned a button and I can at least shift quickly now.. The game has been stable, not a crash yet. The coastline roads are quite drivable, the mountain stuff indeed doesn't use enough polygons.

Now a way to get hardcore mode physics (which should actually be semi ok for a bit of 'fun') and this could be a somewhat enjoyable ride..
Sounds like they made a right hash up of the online release..shame, should have used Steam or something, least it works.

Just ordered from Gameseek..can anyone comment on the performance/stuttering, compared to the betas? They ran an acceptable 30-40fps for me (A64 3400, 7600GT, 1GB) so I can't complain, wondering if any more tweaking was done before it went gold. Online play rarely worked as it should for the betas, hopefully this is better now?
TDU uses EVERY BIT OF YOUR CPU! Its not new news, but i had firefox running and sametime i played TDU. Game stuttered and lagged really bad, but when i closed firefox, it ran much better, so if you want the best performance, turn off all programs etc. you dont need. Again, its not new news, but its just so crazy..

I have stock koeningsegg and will buy saleen someday soon too, want to tune them all to max.
I have an AMD 64 3200+, 1GB RAM and a 7600GS overclocked.

Will it run decently at a good detail at 800x600? Or should I use the money to buy a gearknob for my car?
Quote from Hyperactive :It would be mighty interesting to see how it would play out in court when someone sued the TDU devs because its uninstallation program removed his precious files

Can I do that then lol? I had to format my pc twice as it wiped my windows files, that was in the beta though although im expecting the same thing from retail
I've got an A64 3500+, 7600GT and 1GB ram and its playable at 1440x900x32 but with no AA. Its a pretty good game. I've got an Alfa at the moment, I only started yesterday. I guess I need to try more races
Quote from ShibbyMan666 :Can I do that then lol? I had to format my pc twice as it wiped my windows files, that was in the beta though although im expecting the same thing from retail

Oh yer, which files does it delete again?

Shouldnt be an issue as I have it on my optimised games only partition with xp on.
For me it deleted system32/hal.dll each time i uninstalled, wouldnt let me boot windows after so had to format each time
That is very nasty! My c:\ is very empty now.. I'm not aiming to keep stuff there but perhaps a playlist or two where there!

I also overclocked the cpu a bit more, from 1800 to 2500.. now to 2700! Which barely helps of course but 50% overclock feels nice... It seems that when you're doing a race or challange the game decides to drop from 32 to 24fps.. That is at the same roads I drove before so I reallys hould get 32fps. I once had the framerate going in the 20s when I nearly drove into a building.. Alt tabbing in and out restored it to the 30s :O

And I'm not looking at the supermodels polygons, I'm looking at the road.... I saw this icon, stopped and it turned out to be the very realistic scenario of a super model looking for a ride! haha... And I delivered an Enzo and an old Muria (sp) perfectly, which was worth over 200.000 in total; a little odd if you ask me but I'll take the $..

Some of the more annoying things are the view which always turns a little with steering. That is very hard to get used to and makes everything feel even more floaty than it already is! It also seems that they reduce wheel accuracy to something like 256 steps. I don't think I notice any change of direction until the graphical wheel turns a 'step', this step is way greater than the accuracy of my wheel.

Also the brake pedal seems to have been the result of very clever thinking... They probably wanted each car to feel differently on its brakes so they made some weird very progressive / exponential curves for them.. With my loadcell brake its just too weird.. Press 5kg.. nothing press 10kg, siliiiight slow down. press 12kg SCCCREEEEEEEEEEEEETCH
How is this game on "hardcore" mode? Is it like a sim?

I always wanted a game where I can drive on real roads in a real city with realistic physics and graphics.

There is NOTHING like that on the PC.

I like LFS but I don't like always driving on a track. Can anyone comment on the physics in this game...what's "unrealistic" and what is realistic.

From what I hear it's much better than the god awful NFS series.
The low-res nature of the roads, read sharp and bumpy, is a real downer on what would be an otherwise quite fun game
"acquiring" - just hope it will be fun with my Momo
I must say, I've been having a lot of fun on this game. The bikes, just like on the 360 demo suck to ride, but the cars are still good fun. Fun game, makes a nice change from LFS and the like.
My google efforts have not lead to any 'hardcore mode unlock' cheat.

I don't know if it would work but TDU saves savegames in 'my documents\Test Drive Unlimited folder. Does anyone here have the required points yet? I don't drive online.. perhaps it would be possible to copy other peoples savegames and select the user in game?

You would earn eternal gratefullness from a handfull of LFS forumers..
Quote from danowat :The low-res nature of the roads, read sharp and bumpy, is a real downer on what would be an otherwise quite fun game

Er, low-res? As I recall from the beta, the graphics were very impressive, once you applied 4xAF.

EDIT: Do you mean the low-poly road mapping? That was easily the biggest complaint everyone had during beta testing, but would be a lot of work for them to sort

somasleep, the physics are "good enough" to not have that floating feeling and totally unrealistic speeds games like NFS have. I quite like them, till you oversteer anyway, all goes to hell at that point.

What with having proper cars/dashboards and being able to do stuff like play with the windows, traction control, stereo etc, and AI traffic that does more than 3mph, its quite a nice city enviroment if thats what your after.

My copy from Gameseek should be here tomorrow
not low-res as in graphics, but low-res as in the amount of actually polygons in the road "mesh", it is very jaggy and bumpy, lots of sharp edges.

Other than that, I actually quite like it in a GTA sandbox kinda way
