LFS car brands
How did the imaginary (i.e. not the licenced) cars get their names in LFS? It's been building up in me for a while and now I'm really curious

I have a feeling the letters 'F' and 'R' after 'X' stand for FWD and RWD - XF GTi, XR GT. RB4 GT implies its 4WD (but still where does 'R' and 'B' come from?). FXO - no clue. Same for UF1000, LXs and all the other cars...

Any ideas on this?
XFG - Front wheel drive, Gti
XRG - RWD, GT
XRT - RWD, Turbo
RB4 - 4WD (Really Badass?, Raunchy Brick? Rolling Barricade?)
FXO - FWD, Owns all others
LX4 - Long thing, 4 cylinders
LX6 - Long thing #2, 6 cylinders
UF1 - FWD (Ultraslow? Underpowered? Unstoppable?)
XFR - XFG Race tuned/GTR version
UFR - UF1 Race tuned/GTR version
FZ5 - ??? (Ferrari + something. Z probably sounded cool. Car potpourri)
FOX - Formula
FO8 - Formula, 8 cylinders
XRR, FXR, FZR - <car> Race tuned/GTR version

(who would've guessed, not all are meant seriously )
rofl i love your guesses to what the RB4 and the UF1k stand for heh
UF1 - Upgraded F1?
(BF1 - Basic ....)
BF1 - BMW Sauber F1
(incase you were serious)

E: Actually, Blazingly Fast 1 (one)
Okay, how about this idea then?

One letter is classification:
X = standard road car
L = lightweight
R = rally

Another letter is driving wheel:
R = rear
F = front
4 = all

So for instance, that gives us
XFG = Road going FWD GTi
XRT = Road going RWD Turbo
LX6 = Lightweight road going (6 = engine type?)
RB4 = Rally (B?) 4WD
FXO = FWD Road going (O?)

Obviously I'm missing some letters, but it was just a thought

The exception to this would be the FZ50, which is not FWD and has no R in it's name.
OK this is a challenge noiw, does anyone have an idea where the name FZ50 came from? Or was this from one of Scawen's bad dreams?

(not that I have inside knowledge of said dreams)
well, the FZ50 can be considered a cross of the Fearrari 550 and a 350z.
F(from Ferrari) Z(from 350z)50(from both)

thus, FZ50

i'm pretty sure RB4= Richard burns 4WD
and the RB4 GTR=RBR=Richard Burns Rally.
RB4 = Rally-Bred 4WD?

FXO = FWD GTO?

now why is the FXR 4WD?!?!?@
Also... is there anyone out there that wants to design manufacturer badges for these cars?
Quote from Burnzoire :now why is the FXR 4WD?!?!?@

Probably because 500hp wouldn't make any sense in a front wheel drive car? It would be even more out of competition than it is now.
This is tricky.

well, none of these cars have rearmounted engines.. the porsche does however, and i see it as a cross between ferrari and porsche.. so your theory doesn't make much sense to me!

F = FWD
R = RWD

FWD + RWD = AWD
Quote from AndroidXP : FZ5 - ??? (Ferrari + something. Z probably sounded cool. Car potpourri)

The Z in FZR refers to the Zebrawood interior trim from Zimbabwe Very rare, what makes the car so special

In all seriousness though, the FZ50 is based on a Porsche (performance wise). The looks.... well... they are something to think about. The FZ50 isn't particularly beautiful, but it is indeed a mix of a Porsche and a Ferrari. Though it does have a Nissan 350z resemblance from the front, I think it is easy to see how the Porsche and Ferrari are the most dominant. I personally think most of the names the devs give the cars are not by what reallife counterpart they relate to, or how their drivetrain is setup... but rather what sounds fitting to the car, and so that there aren't any similar name conflicts with all the choices.

If that was their motivation for a series of similar sounding three letter abbreviations, and non-standardisation of car names for different purposes within LFS, then they totall failed !

That's why you can't find out the source code for LFS, nobody has the right keyboard.
hmm I just tried a random search in wiki for fz50 and it came back with some bikes and camera names. But it still doesnt make it clear what the fz stands for for the bikes. The Z stands for Zoom when talking about digital cameras
but when talking about cars its ermm

Maybe its a mazda and the Z stands for Zooooom Zooooom Zooooom...

search fot an explanation goes on...!
What about the UF1.

I personally think that stands for
UF- Ultra fast
1- It's top speed.

But seriously, there's nothing exact that that name goes with so I think the devs were pissing about and it does stand for something like Unbelievably fast etc.

I mean, prime example here, the story of the Mitsu FQ series.
Apparentely, the FQ series got it's name because in a press conference or something where the car was being driven, someone from the press was heard whispering "WOW That's f**cking quick".
There was also rumours it stood for 'Fine Quality'.
The 3 letter system has it good and bad sides. The good sides are that the cars have their own 3 letter name which makes them recongnizable on lists and tables where you don't have enough space for the long names. And I think FXO is easier to remember than some "Fork industries Oulanda Elegance couple 2.0T". The bad side is that you have limited number of letter so the names start to get quite similar with more than few cars (FXO, FOX, XFR, FXR).

Instead of 3 letter, why not 5?

Would be handy if these three (or five) letters codes were also visible in the car selection screen, too. At least for newcomers.
Yeah it can become confusing with all the code names.
Though someone did make a chart thingy with the cars and tracks with the short names under.
