DaveWS - Sorry M8. They do that. I had a 1 gb stick that just one day decided to stop working. No reason, no errors, nothing. Also another one, is to say that its empty on 1 computer, but works on another one, thats another sign of failing.

BTW, pen drives are usually made of shitty electronics and shortcircuits are not uncommon in the cheap ones.

That remembers me to my classmate in the uni, after turning on an exercise board nothing happened.

WOW nice melt down , I once had a pen stop working... i then took it apart, played around with it... then put it back in, to find sparks coming out of it! GULP!

Some time ago, a friend who works in IT had a collegue ask him to fix his laptop!
The collegue has stupidly spilt water on this laptop, to find it had stopped working...
Well the laptop was placed in front of a blow fire, as IT workers are in and out of the office alot, he got called to fix something else.
The laptop was left in front of this fire for some time, where it melted into a mess... see attached pic
