Since I found out there's not definate chance of me getting a G25 in time for Christmas I thought I'd spend some of the money on another wheel/pedals and an FF joystick.
I'm going to be using FFShifter - what's the best joystick to use with it?
Would I be best getting a second-hand DFP and using the pedals from that or can you recommend a cheap (>£30 second-hand) a wheel with good pedals?
1. FFB shifter:
I use a Logitech Force 3D. It comes with quite a lot potentiometers (2 axis + one for twisting the handle + throttle lever, makes two spare potentiometers), and is pretty simple in it's internals.
The handle can be removed and as far as I know a standard (VW, Opel, Seat, etc.) shifting handle fits nicely over the base. The force feedback is by far strong enough to keep it in position. If I pump it up the mere inertia of the handle combined with the forces is enough to remove the shifter from my PC tower (which is my virtual middle console). It's strong.
I don't have a shifter-plate, and it works nicely without. Couldn't get myself to make one from wood or something yet.
2. Pedals:
I didn't make those yet because I don't have access to a pedal set currently (I own a second one, I just need to get to it :tilt. The plan is to flip my MOMO pedals upside down, use the former accelerator as the clutch, brake stays brake, and the new pedalset is sawed in half and angled to make a perfect bottom-mounted throttle, right in position for heel-toeing.
So far for the plan. As I know myself I'll never do it.
As a shopping advice I'd go around and look for a pedalset that looks like it'd fit it's intention (clutch or accelerator) well. A clutch should be rather soft and high, an accelerator mostly flat. At least for me. Make that out for yourself. Once you have the pedal set you want just grab your tool-set and get going. It isn't hard.
I know it's not too expensive to build but I don't want to spent too much on it - around £40 would be good. I also don't have the time to build my own.
