How to change AA and AF?
thankyou to everyone who replys
You can't do it from within the game.

Right-click on your desktop and select "Properties", then the "Settings" tab, then the "Advanced" button in that tab. Where you go from here depends on which type of graphics card you have. I have an ATI, so I choose the "3D" tab from which I can choose my AA and AF settings. If you have an Nvidia card it will probably be called something else.
i only have these tabs:
General
Adaptor
Moniter
Troubleshoot
Color Management
Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver

whih one should i focus on?

Focus on buying a proper graphics card first

You CAN enable AA/AF on an integrated INtel chip, but AA RAPES framerates, and seeing as you dont even have a dedicated graphics card you will get about 2 fps!
New graphics cards cost peanuts, I needed a new graphics card for my server PC, the cheapest thing I could find (almost*) was a GeForce 6200 so I snapped it up and plonked it in. That is all you need to run LFS at high res with AA + AF, so long as your CPU is up to it.

*There were some ancient POS cards available but the difference in price was only a couple of pounds, they weren't worth considering.
I have a x1600PRO and still my framerate in LFS drops down to 15 sometimes. Shitty dell motherboard. (and I have a P4 2.8Ghz lol)

Just to note, peanuts to some are like cashews and pistachios to others. Certainly there are folks in this world who can't afford peanuts and must rely on eating just sunflower seeds.

Wish everyone would quit flaunting their financial superiority around saying graphics cards are cheap.

A 6200 is cheap, I don't think its financial superiority just that maybe some are shopping at better places than other who shop in the mainstream market and tend to get ripped off by paying upto double.

Lol I have the same card as yours I get about 30fps. Does AA and AF come with it off or is on a certain level? What happens if you turn it off?

That isn't your motherboard sir. You have some incorrect settings. I have a P4 2.8 and an X800XL and my FPS is constantly maxed-out at 75. That's with every in-game setting maxed, and my Windows settings maxed-out (6xAA, 16xAF). I even run Adaptive Anti-Aliasing which usually crushes framerates.

Have you tried switching your drivers? When I first got LFS I was running a driver set (Catalyst 5.12) which turned out to be a poor choice, because I got the same symptoms that you describe (sudden FPS drops). I rolled back to the 5.11s and now it runs silky smooth.

Er, they are cheap, and this is coming from a broke-ass college student. You can get a 6200 (as stated before, adequate for LFS) for less than $50, which is more than the average cost for a month of high-speed internet. If someone's so broke that they consider that to be prohibitively expensive, I have to wonder how they managed to afford the rest of their PC, a new steering wheel, an S2 license, etc...

Can I be the first to point out that Mrodgers has 56K, not Broadband?

AA/AF has different levels - and everything comes at "Off" by default!
By the way: Is there some technical reason, why AA/AF cannot be set from within the game? It's actually a bit annoying to do that in the display properties all the time (and yes, I know that you can create profiles with catalyst, but I dont want to)

i think its just that it take a fair bit of work to do, plus it takes all of about a minute to set up the 3 profiles youll ever need (and that includes reading about what each one does) in nHancer

(i say 3 profiles - 1 with NO AA/AF, its just for testing, why get it hot for no real reason! - 1 with Max AA/AF for screenies and one for ordinary play with a reason level of AA/AF)

And lowgoods - you tried ATi Tray Tools? If its catalyst you dont like, you can set it up in there easily!
I dont like it because it does not work properly for all sort of games and configurations. Same thing with the Wingman profiler for setting up Logitech wheels. For example I do not get it working as intended when playing RBR via RBRnet. I do not remember what game exactly was the problem with the ATI profiles, but there also was some...

...then have you tried ATi Tray Tools? it worked GREAT for me back on my old 9600XT!
Quote from Davo :Focus on buying a proper graphics card first

you mean focus on getting a PC so i can change my Graphics card (i only have Laptop) and, ATI tray tools dont work Cannot find ATI Video Board or no catalyst drivers installed

No, maybe I should give it a try. But after all it would still be more comfortable to do just two clicks in the video settings of LFS...

yes, but LFS is a bit of a geeky game - if you manage to extract it and know that your PC is quick enough to cope with AA/AF (and what AA/AF is!) then you should know how to set it up!

no idea what AA/AF is but ppl say it makes the game look better

How weird...I have the same card and same program. I use the tray tool to crank up everything when I take screenshots, as you commented on, once.
Can I say, I have a pentium 4, now with x1900xtx but used to have Nvidia 6200 , was very poor FPS , like 50 max without AA ...
