Or how to fix this. It causes the video to run very choppy sometimes.

Is that the speed it reads the video off the hard drive? Seems like you need a faster drive, perhaps a defrag could help.

Absolutely right and I think it's the main reason of the data loss
So maybe u could tell us your computer configuration. I think you should get back to XP

Its windows Vista Ultimate (OEM) my pc specs are
Intel E6600@ 2.4Ghz
Ati 1900XTX,
2 gigs of Dual Channel DDR2 677MHZ
500 Gig SATA hd
Partitioned to 100gig for vista, 200 gigs for programs and 200 gigs for video's

I'd shut down all other processes, especially ones that use CPU or read / write from HDD.
