DFP - Very Noisy - Anything to be done?
I've had my DFP for some time now, and although the wheel and pedals work fine, the wheel is very loud when in use. As I tend to be on TeamSpeak when I drive the wheel is almost constantly annoying other people as it's loud enough to be detected.

I've played with the activation levels, and the upshot is that I need to make it quieter. Push-to-talk doesn't quite work for me either.

Any suggestions?
They are just naturally loud when you turn them fast, nothing you can really do except try wrapping it in insulation. It is just a drawback of having force feedback really .
Push to talk may work for the people you're on TS with though. Have a thought for them.
It's not the FF he's talking about I guess, it's the whizzing gear noises right? I've often pondered taking mine apart and applying some nylon type grese. (If there is such a thing)
With a 40:1 gear transmission you don't have to steer fast before the motor is going bananas and the cogs scream with the drag / inertia of it all

Using 200 degrees mode might help as you don't have to steer so fast then..

I would think gear grease for Radio Controlled Cars would work well and then some type of insulation (even duck tape and a pillow lol)

Yes, there is only one way ---> Push-to-talk...
Well .. its loud ... but if its loud and it sounds rough, then maybe the bearings are going O_O
Thanks for the replies so far. Sorry for the lack of detail - I was on my way out at the time and thought I'd fire that post in.

I did try push-to-talk, but TS2 doesn't cater for mapping a wheel button directly and it only works with the profiler running, which is yet another program to fire up when I want to play. The other thing is that I can only talk while I'm on a straight, which is pretty annoying to me and those I'm trying to talk to.

As other people in the same TS channel have a DFP and theirs doesn't pick up on the microphone I'm assuming that either my wheel is louder, or my mic is more sensitive. I think it's the wheel as it seems pretty loud.

Is there anthing in particular that might be causing it to be loud (and therefore some lubrication or preventative TLC might solve), or is it a case of "oh well, it's loud"?
well....... take it arpart and get some DECENT bearings, but it makes a fair old noise anyhoo
Have you tried another mic?
Cheap condenser mics tend to pick up everything and then some.

Also, where is your mic positioned?
Have you tried moving it around? (if you can)

If it is a table top one, consider moving it off the table since the plastics will carry the vibrations from the desk straight to the mic.
plantronics gamecom1 FTW =D
Yep, the mic is a cheapo thing. I use it because it allows me to clip it onto whatever headphones I want to wear.

I also have a single-sided headset, so I'll try that and see if the different mic will cut out the wheel noise. It certainly doesn't pick up half the background noise the universal one does.
