Hi

I really like the unbumpmapped, simple and clean graphics, but for me it's a bit too technical/flat when it comes to lightning and mapping.

so i did some Photoshop modification on a typical LFS screenshot:

mouseover = before/after click=explanation

hope you like it
I agree with you that the lightning / mapping is a tad too simple and flat, and I'd prefer somewhat similar, like featured in your photoshop edit (which is quite nice ).

Anyway, I believe that on the way to S3 we will get loads of graphical improvements, but developers' priorities at the very moment are more gameplay-related.

We just have to be patient, Dx10 is on it's way...
What does DX10 have to do with this? DX10 is not downwards compatible and will only work on Vista, so I'm 100% sure Scawen will NOT utilize it.

@Topic: The graphics surely can be improved, but as frokki said, that's mainly the focus of S3.
I think the lighting features of DX9 will be more than enough for LFS. At least until people decide they want...whatever the hell extra DX10 is supposed to bring.

And there's a new version of DX9 coming out that is supposed to be like DX10 for XP, so there's no urgent need to "upgrade" to Vista any time soon

It's 2007 now. I don't have any hopes for S3 beta until 2010...

DX9 was released in 2002, and DX10 in 2006.
I'm not a fortune teller, and my LFS knowledge isn't even close of yours, Android, but I don't think that S3 in DX10 is completely impossible.
You know, LFS takes pride in supporting a wide variety and pretty old systems. Using DX10 would be the exact opposite of that, and unless there's some special way to use DX10 without losing downwards compatibility (like maybe the DX9.5 Dajmin mentioned), then I'll see no chance of it being used.

But it's all speculation, we'll see anyway
till now LFS isn't even using the full features of DX 8/9, so i don't think that Scavier will use DX10, which is as mentiond not downwards compatible.

what i really would like to see is some global illumination and diffuse reflection, like it's done in Trackmania. This would add alot more of realism.

DX10 is Vista only, why not wait and see how many people jump onboard an OS that forces DRM systems implemenented at core levels of the OS and requires 650Mb of ram just to boot to an idle.

I hate this speculating, because it's just speculating and I really don't have any clue how these things are going to develope, because i'm no expert of any kind, but..

After Windows 95 the average interval of new real Micro$oft OS (counting out 98SE, NT, ME, etc..) has been about 3 years. Last summer they stopped supporting all older OS's than one before current. Following the same logic, XP support could end around 2013, maybe even few years earlier (as these 5 years between xp and vista rose the avg. time). True or total nonsense, the 'fact' is, that most of us will jump onboard on Vista before 2009.
