Aliens are green, I think green is the wrong colour for dirty rotten scoundrels! lol... They should have pink with a picture of a daisy, that'll teach em
LOL, reminds me of my old days of 1-on-1 online racing with Papy's Indycar. The loser of the last race had to drive the bright pink skinned cars with big daisy motif. Maybe we could get this coded into stcc servers, the slowest lap of the last round gets to drive the pink daisy skin by auto skin download
Becky, I am sure you guys do a nice job running STCC, but:
Could you stop bragging and boasting everywhere and at all times what you all do for the first time and how great it is? And especially stop doing it in the general forum, when that is actually not the place for league stuff?
There are quite a few folks doing league work and they are all working their butts off. There are also quite a few folks that have been doing so since 2003, have been doing so very successfully, have introduced new concepts to league racing in general, have been doing live streaming since 2003, have introduced start procedures other than the regular standing starts in LFS, have introduced code to do that in an automated manner and besides live streaming have been live on real TV with their projects.
Yet, these folks don't feel the need to scream about it at every minute of the day in that "we are the first and best" attitude despite the fact those falks actually are and in a lot of respects you are not.
So please, how about you show those folks a little respect just by actually taking a step back in the boasting, will you?
Thanks Hoellsen, I didn't start this thread btw, indeed most threads about the STCC are started by other people - usually attacking it because it's mentioned all the time, or because they where crashed by somebody or something.
I created the tiered server announcement thread, and I create a movie announcement once a month. I'm hardly shouting and screaming, I do however reply to other posts about the STCC.
The quote you post of me above sounds arrogant in the context you put it, but if you'd cared to post the next few sentences you'll see I do realise what other leagues are doing, that's what I was actually talking about in my post - other leagues.
My entire post, incidentally, is about why the STCC is mentioned so much and was in response to Sam's post about a growing resentment of the publicity of the STCC - your post confirms that, my post is why, your selective quoting of my post doesn't change that, it just means an STCC post is boosted to the top of the forum again...
Maybe this could/should be moved to the leagues-forum. However, the STCC-tiered servers are not an actual league and unlike the leagues I know of, work on a pick-up-and-play basis. So the tiered server system is really much more accessible than your usual league and thus appeals to a wider user base. So this thread, which is actually about both, the tiered servers and the STCC-league, it might as well stay where it is. But I don't care one way or the other.
@Hoellsen: Seriously, what kind of foul play is that? Quoting one part of the post and then rephrasing the rest of the post to turn it around as an allegation against the original poster? Ever heard of the term "BILD-Zeitungs-Methoden"?
The STCC Public servers are pickup race servers, not a league. As for bragging and boasting, I heard about STCC from a friend, even though I read the forums. If there was wall-to-wall STCC advertising, surely I'd have seen it myself, not be told down the pub?
The other side is that if you've done something great, why not tell people about it? You say you've got alternative starts - where's your server doing them? It sounds good to me, so where do I go?
I don't know anything about other leagues as I have irregular work days and huge amounts of travel so I can't commit to participating. How would I know about your acheivements if you didn't say something about them?
EDIT: After reading this I sound confrontational - that's not the intention. I would genuinely like to know what your thoughts are.
I started this thread as a general LFS interest thread, since around 5000 individual LFS licence holders have, so far, participated in the public tiered servers. The servers are PUBLIC servers, they just carry the STCC title because they're ASSOCIATED with the STCC. The userbars are, thus, public interest. This thread is about the userbars.
Nobody's boasting. Read Becky's post again, will ya? And for goodness sake, get a bloody grip. How the HELL can promoting LFS, and a bunch of public servers, do YOU harm?? Your attitude is pathetic. Show RESPECT? To THAT attitude? How about NO!?
Hoellesen: sounds like sour grapes to me (sorry, english expression meaning a negative comment triggered by some feeling of jealousy) you have no valid reason to criticise STCC, they do a good job, why not accept that different serv ers exist to cater to the needs of a diverse community? If you feel you are not getting the publicity you deserve, then think about a way of promoting your league in a positive and effective manner to the community here, don't slag off others for being more successful, that will only bring you contempt.
Hoellsen, I'm sorry if my response to you is harsh. I AM sick of the ney-sayers, and the do-it-down attitude of a very SMALL minority of people. When I bit back, it wasn't just at you, but at that small cluster of others too.
I'm all for promoting other leagues. I'm all for other leagues promoting themselves. Leagues SHOULD be promoting themselves, and this is why I'm frustrated.. because they CAN do, and they DON'T. The userbar is just an example, and yet to my knowledge not a single other league has taken up the offer from Victor. I've offered free graphic hosting, and I've offered graphics and technical support to get it up and running.. and not ONE response. THAT'S NOT MY FAULT!
The STCC league itself - and this IS off-topic - is SPECIFICALLY designed to promote LFS to non-LFSers. The league is DESIGNED to provide the media content, which is then used to create a broadcast video once every month, promoting awareness of sim-racing in the LFS racing simulator. So please.. understand that it IS going to be visible, BY DESIGN, and it IS going to do its best to get noticed, and it IS going to make EVERY effort to promote awareness of itself to, not JUST you but, ANYONE. EVERYONE. This is how it promotes LFS.
Frankly, we could do with your support rather than you trying to cut us down, bitching and complaining about what we're doing.
Hope you don't mind, I edited your signature. You'd included the entire URL to the graphic inside the stcc tags. It just needs "mini/Knight_Atack" without the quotes. Sorted now
Ever thought why? And I know I pulled the thread back up, hardly possible to discuss something without that.
Pls refrain from implying that I rephrased anything. I did nothing but copypaste (with a bit of cutting without changing the words) and writing my opinion.
Well, see, that is the whole point of it: Other leagues keep their info to where it is supposed to be: in the Leages & Events Board. Which is where this stuff belongs, because even those tiered servers are event like servers if you really take a look at it. And since it is not kept there, other leagues do not get the attention their deserve and that is only because they play by the rules. I mean yes, we could tell everyone here in the General Discussion board that in the ESL and MoE you have live streaming, very different methods of racing, a live tracker during the race in MoE, a starter tool for flying starts in the MoE, that we had a peak of 472 people watching LIVE during the 24h of Aston, 10gigs of traffic with the tracker and a couple of millions page impressions. But we don't. We know there are other leagues out there that work just as hard as we do, maybe even harder. We respect that by keeping to where we are supposed to be because playing by the rules gives everyone the same chance.
And pls don't worry about sound confrontional, I am sounding that way (intentionally), so why should I be pissed at people getting back to me in the same tone?
You know, I actually do like the idea of the userbar in general. Creating userbars like "spectator" is off the chart, though. Also: how can leagues promote themselves if one of the leagues does not play by the rules? Other leagues, as they are supposed to, that is why we have the special section, keep to the leagues section. Personally, I remember being bitched at for doing one (1!) announcement post when we initially started MoE back in September 2005 in the General Discussion board. It even was by an administrator. So yes, if I take that in mind, it is sour grapes I am posting now. But it really is not, it is simply that I know there are other leagues who deserve the same attention and they aren't getting it just because they are sticking where they are supposed to be.
If you are promoting to non-LFSers, why are you promoting it in the General LFS Discussion board? If you want to promote to non-LFSers, you need to go different ways. Check ESL, if you want to know how. It's been done before, it is being done at this time right now and it will be done in the future. Without not playing by the rules and I care to say probably quite a bit more successfully. And that is just judging by the numbers of folks participating. If I also mentioned the off-line finale events that have been held numerous times, the live-on-German-TV-on Saturday-Prime-Time and the intel connection, I would be boasting, so I won't.
So please don't tell me you are promoting LFS to non-LFS customers by posting in a specifically-LFS-forum in the wrong section for it.
It's things like this, accusing me of things i've NEVER said and NEVER done, that is pure internet forum attack - it's also the reason why STCC is getting mentioned alot - apart from porn videos and mp3's about me, there's been a lot of forum posts attacking me and MOST of the posts about STCC you keep reading have been atacks on me or the servers, the one single post I ever made had 3 flamewars in it and was eventually removed.
Hoellsen, you are talking bullshit, i've not done the things you accuse me of, i'm not spamming STCC - this particular post was made so people could put a userbar on OTHER NON LFS FORUMS !
Yes, your post was directed squarely at me - you addressed me by name - you have turned another positive STCC post into a flamewar.
I dont care for whatever childhood trauma you have, there's an answer for everything, but i'm sick to bloody death of getting attacked like this. There was NO PROVOCATION AT FRIGGING A TALL.
If you and the select few want to chase me out of LFS you are doing a very good job.
And for christs sake, less of this sort of one upmanship.
The term 'spectator' on the userbars is a default message if you request a licensename that does not exist.
So stop being offensive please, i'm sick to death of loosers like you and people like you - I deal with multiple flamewars a week of late, i've had porn made about me, songs, received hate mail and forum flame wars all because of what? SOMEBODY ELSE posts something positive about my league.
IMO this doesn't belong in league sections, this is about the STCC servers, which are PUBLIC! I never saw anyone saying the threads about REDLINE servers being asked to be moved to the league section, which is basically the same type of thread as this STCC thread, just more bashing going on here because people are mad that a new league stepped in doing something totally new and its starting to look like it might be a big one.
I don't recall reading much about the actuall STCC leauge unless someone came in complaining they are stealing the show. Well tough, get off your arse and advertise your leauge in a new way too if you feel threatened.
I am sick and tired of people complaining about how STCC does this STCC does that. It's no different than any other leauges in terms that we still have to have drivers to race, and good ones at that.
Not nice to see posts like this above mine, the community lost its friendly and warm atmosphere since S1 times
It seems to me, that Hoellesen is generally a bit jealous that STCC is getting more interest than MoE. But do you really care about that? STCC is intended to be a friendly and "easy to use" league as I see, using the road cars only. MoE has another policy - it uses race cars and do long races which contains serious racing. Both leagues are great in their own way - MoE for giving a professional racing and STCC for giving a lot of fun
And I think that most people will agree, that MoE is the most professional race series in LFS World. STCC is more friendly and open for public, so maybe thats why these threads can be posted in this section.
Srry Poolek, your right, but I am totally sick and fed up of listening to people whining, no matter how nice people word things at the end of the day thats what it is. If the admins (besides Sam) wanted this moved because it didn't belong in general section it would have been done ages ago, not done on page 8. :soapbox::sp3poskin
