DFP Making "bleeping" noise
Well, all started this morning, and i heard this bleep, i assumed is was my parents using the digi-cam, as its that type of beep. so, i continue driving, the same beep. at this point, the race had ended, so i got up and investigated, just to find the cameras not in use. so, i go back and race, then 5 laps in, i here 3 beeps in a row, and couple seconds after that, my DFP "unlocks", and both of the lights start flashing...

So anyway, i go out, come back, start my PC up, just for the PC to randomly ask (Bear in mind, the PC hasnt been moved in a few weeks) just to say its found a new PCI Device, Which it cant seem to install.

So, what do you thinks happened? has my wheel died already in less then 6 weeks?

Well your wheel isn't a PCI device for starters. AFAIK there's no beeping device in a DFP to make such a noise, although the LEDs can flash. If your LEDs are flashing the easiest thing to do is unplug the wheel from both the mains and the USB port then plug it back in again.
I unplugged it, pluged the cable into a different USB card altogether, disconnected the mains, re-connected etc. still the same thing.

the bleeping is "defo" coming from the wheel itself, i tried to video it, but the bleep isnt loud enough on the video.

further inspection, as i pressed my ear against the unit, is when it rotated and at the point it should rotate back, there was some griding noise, havnt heard this before, but then again, i havnt pressed my ear against it before.

2 Days, NO DFP?!? MURDER!

I've heard small electrical motors 'bleep'/'chirp' when they are seizing up

When the rotor won't turn any further, the current rushing twords the magnets inside the case can make a chirping noise, sounds like the gearing is dieing, dont use it again or you will do more and more damage!

EDIT: dont!Open her up and have a look for any obvious mis-alignment of the cogs and gearing.

bing it back to shop!!!
Damn, who do i call? the store or logitech?

THE GHOSTBUSTERS!lol

Really though, It's still under warranty, get you're wheel, put it in the box, grab you're receipt, work up a big angry face and bring it back to the store you bought it from!
Demand a new wheel there and then, tell them some bull storey like it was a prezzie for someone and you are very dissapointed, better still get someone like youre mum or dad to bring it back as store managers can be ****s at the best of times
i new someone was gunna say ghostbusters :P

the trouble is, i bought it online, and the stores 150 miles away, problem for me, having no car.
Mine has beeped before, can't remember what lead to it beeping, but it definatly did.

the trouble is, i bought it offline, and the stores 150 miles away, problem for me, having no car.

That is a pain, the only option is to ring the store manager, explain that its just dead, DON'T sound like you know too much about what happened to it or that you know anything about what I've said about motors jamming up as that will only get him suspiscious as to what you might have done to it.
So just explain: It's dead, I want a new one ASAP, because it was a b.day prezzie from you're parents and they always shop at you're store MR. store manager.

The problem that I've had sending things back to the store by post is that these thins tend to go missing, and store staff can be very forgetfull, so you're wheel might end up sitting on a shelf and noone cares about it for months of you ringing the store, very annoying!

Don't sent the origional receipt, photocopy it and send the package by registered post(so someone at the store HAS to sign for it).

Make sure you arrange all of the above with the store manager before hand AND GET HIS NAME!

@ Dan, did the LED's flash and grinding noise and all??? If so, maybe it's just a trait of this wheel....
set the lock to something lower than 900° turn it into the lock and a little further and hold it there
now turn the wheel very very slowly ... is that the sort of "beep" youre talking about ?
As I remember it was just sitting on the floor plugged in, no other noise apart from a beeeepp............beeeeppp..........beeepppp
no, its a "beep", as in a computer type "beep". its not coming from the Mobo Beeping speaker, its coming from the wheel itself, even when the wheel isnt moving. along with the lights flashing

Well, does the wheel still work normally??? or was it a serious grinding noise?

I may have jumped the gun a bit there LOL
I had a dfp for a year never any problems with it, and definatly no beeping. I know 2 other people (personally not just msn lol) that also have dfp's for about a year so if it's a fault with the wheel its a strange one.
I would send it back to the store but it depends one your warrenty with the store. I was reading the warrenty on my g25 and basically logitech dont care about a store warrenty just your one with them. So if the store refuse to replace it you can send it to logitech.
A nice tip if Mr. Manager is being an A hole is the sales of goods act (1979 iirc but dont say that lol) which states a product must be fit for purpose. So as your wheel stopped working in 6 weeks it obviously wasnt fit for its intended purpose and so is returnable.
Also if they still wont return it then argue that you bought the wheel of them and your 'contract' is with them as a company so you expect a return from them and they can return it to logitech. Then if they still refuse then send it to logitech

Edit: Oh does it still work? Its not something ive heard so could send it back to be on the safe side
No, it doesnt work whatso ever. the wheel doesnt work, even the Wingman Drivers recognise the wheel, but dont recognise any movements, such as pedals etc. i tried re-installing it, and plugging it in several USB Ports (Even the direct Mobo USB ports.

I Emailed the shop, asking for an exchange. i shouldnt need a receipt, as its all there on my account on the site.

I know this is a bit late but the DFP does indeed make a "beeping" noise. My DFP broke and I decided to open it to see what's wrong. While I was looking around I noticed this weird small metal thingie connected to a small plastic thingie. Anyways, out of curiosity I pushed the metal thing towards the plastic bit and it made a little "beep" noise. At the same time, something moved inside trying to make the wheel lock into place. The sound came definately from the wheel itself and not the speakers. There must be somekind of a weird gizmo inside which makes that noise.
