Server up right now (9:00 CST 9-29-05) Should be up for a while. Come on in!
Nice
#4 - Lible
Nice, just sayng, of cours im using this on my server
lol. Ok. So how is it. Anyone have a chance to test it with about 10 people yet?
only tested single player but it's tons of fun. wish the turns were a bit smoother and rounded. its like someone sat on the 8 and flattened either end.
Arrrrrrgh you beat me to it
Seeing as i was the one to suggest it, i thought i'd have a go myself, rather than expecting someone else do all the work.

This is my first attempt at doing this layout stuff, so it may be a bit rough in places, (its a real pain, until you figure out how to do it) Thank God for good old Bob Smith for his manual, and lots of free time)).

Ive only managed to get it on single player, one car at a time, and i wouldnt have a clue how to get it online, i'll leave that for somebody else.
But, if it is to be used for racing some of the checkpoints may need to be changed.

Hopefully i can figure out this attachment thing so you can all have a blast.

And if someone can tell me how to take a pic of the track i'll post that too.

Anyway, have a go and see if it'll be any good online.

Cheers Mazz

I agree. I'll make some changes, that was about 30 mins work.
Mazz's 8 replay
I still hav'nt figured out how to take a screenshot, but here's a replay of the lap as I have it configured, showing the intended route.

Its not particularly good driving, but its the only lap i managed to do without crashing !!!

Hope the attachment works, i really am a numb nuts when it comes to computers !
Picture
Ive managed to take a screenshot !!

But not sure about a thumbnail ?, (maybe it will appear automatically ?)
And another
Here's a revised track.

I've changed the bottom curve and taken out the yellow penalty cones as you enter the narrow "back" sections.

Enjoy
Cool man. I started to do mine like that then I started thinking about it and I thought there would never be enough people in a server with the track to fill it up and have a good race. So I downsized it.

Posted an update also back to first post....
I made the corners a little more rounded...
Its a shame these things arnt as popular as i'd hoped.

I thought it would be a little bit of light relief from the seriousness of the other races.

If you can get one of these tracks on a server (i wouldnt have a clue), just name a time and i'll be there for sure.

Nice track by the way !

Mazz
Thanks. I had a Server up from about 24 hours Saturday called Figure 8. I wasn't home that day so I'm not sure how many people were on it but i know there was quite abit. I'll let you know when I put it up again.
Updated! I had a server last night with about 8 ppl in it and I noticed when we started a new race not everyone was inside the starting box, some started outside of the barrier so I just moved the barriers all the way back to the wall.
I have a server up right now called FIGURE 8! Duke's! or something like that. Come on in, it's fun!
Updated! I changed all the barriers so there's no more blowups when you hit the walls (or much less). I made the turns smoother, and made a rampless version. The Rampless version makes a great drift track! I've been having a ball trying to connect this figure 8 in one drift. Hope you all like the changes!

Which barriers u change m8,, The red/white ones seem less bouncy

Mick
I dont have the red/white walls anymore. I put the ad advertisement triangle things whatever you call them? When you hit one of these you dont go flying 100 feet in the air, when you hit the red/white ones you do.
:)
Did a bit of Crash testing lol.

The Evostar Tyre Boards are the best, they seem less bouncy.

The way i made my old Figure8 was with the distance tool. I'm not sure i've
read BobSmith's tutorial, but i suspect it's along those lines too. There aren't
many tools to begin with. What i did was measure the width i had to work
with and made this the diameter of one of the two circles. To get the mid
point, or radius if you prefer, i divided the distance i got and put a cone
there. This is the center of one circle. For the other circle, i did the same
thing and then put the second centerpoint (cone) at a distance equal to the
diameter of the first circle minus the track's width. This will make both circles
blend together well. Once you have the center of the circle, it's a matter of
using the distance tool to put walls, or whatever, at the SAME distance from
the center point. Repeat for the second circle. In the end, you get two very
close to perfect circles which a constant radius.

I haven't found a good way to make lines though. Short of using the track
texture as reference. Also since not all tracks are perfectly square relative
to the world, 0, 90, 180 and 270° don't always end up being 'straight' or
aligned as you'd like. After some fiddling, you can figure out an angle that
works, but it's still close to impossible to align objects perfectly on a line.

When i made autocross layouts, i'd draw circles using the technique described
above and then made lines of object from one circle to another to create the
track. This can be used to recreate existing tracks if you have it's
measurements.
:)
did what, measured what, ??? illepall

Kiddin m8,

All i did for my track is layout a figure 8 (nicked the idea of Dukes figure 8 BTW
.
Then drove it full speed, everytime i hit a wall, i moved it further back, and now i got it just as i like it

The ramps were added by user request,

Mick

Where`s Bob Smtihs tutorial :?
lol, ya, it was bugging me too how i couldn't explain it simpler.
It IS simple after all, maybe this pic will help.

Red lines are equal to the diameter, blue lines are equal to the track width,
blue dots are the center points you set your distance start marker on and
the yellow circles is where your objects end up using the distance tool to
always be at the same distance from the center.

That could be and interesting drift!

Ahhh me like,

Might make me next track from that lol

Thank you
