rFactor Error
Whenever I try to start rFactor I get this error message:

No support for texture compression found. DXT texture compression required. Visit the links below for technical support and downloads.

I tried the links there but they were useless. I have an NVIDIA GeForce MX440 graphics card with 64MB of video RAM. Could anyone help please?
It works for me try renaming rFactor.exe to rFactor.ex
I'm having a problem in Counter Strike: Source. When I play certain maps the game crashed with an CMESHDX8 error or something like that. There are no problems when i run dxdiag. I get this looping sound and game freezes so i have to alt-tab out to quit. Any advice on how to fix this problem?? Please help
Try posting on the steam forums as most of us here do not have CS and are not familiar with the controls.

Also, if you are experiencing a problem and it has nothing to do with the thread, start a new one.

I guess he was trying to point out it's quite useless posting a question like that here. This is an LFS forum, so I don't think common sense would make you ask something about another game here... And I guess the people who do play Rfactor around here, are also active on the Rfactor forums.

He did good on choosing the correct subform.

Have you tested it in DX7 mode?

It surely can be that your card is too weak to run it

That would work... how? if it's called .ex then Windows wont have a clue what to do with it and surely won't run it, saving you from the hell of an ISI-Engined game, but not actually fixing the problem!

@sgt.flippy - to be fair, the rF support guys are a bunch of numpties - i was told i was running NT (I'm on XP - and i was then told that it was based upon NT which is (partly) true) and that rF didn't run on NT - ergo rF doesn't run on XP, the most popular OS on the plannet!

Even some of you don't like rFactor, you still can be nice to him, maybe he then finds out how nice people here is and decides to get S2 too
I have no feelings towards rfactor whatsoever, so I'm not not nice because of that, it's just a weird question for here

And can't they get out a patch for XP, I still have to find a game that doesn't run on NT and on which I couldn't find a XP patch. My carmageddon 3 doesn't run on NT either, I love playing it though...

it runs fine on XP, it was just the rF forum guys demonstrating their IQ<1

How on Earth is that supposed to help (lol)? On the other forums they say that an NVIDIA GeForce MX440 (64 MB Video RAM) isn't good enough to play rFactor. Is that true? I've definately got DXT Texture Compression enabled in the control panel.
I can't give a solution for your problem, but I can say: you're starting to become a proof why people should choose LFS instead of Rfactor. I have never seen such ignorance or lack of help on a forum

And if you would find your answer here, it would be highly ironical.

Requirements of rFactor are Geforce 4 4200 with 128MB at minimum, so MX440 is too little, imo.

Does it really matter what opinion one has from sim, surely still can be nice and help or just be quiet, it won't harm anyone or anything
The old MX4## series were dogs when they were released, sort of a video card that isn't. I'd suggest an upgrade but that also depends on your machine age etc.
The cheapest option would be an old geforce ti 4#00 series, dirt cheap off ebay etc and work really well.

LFS only needs DX7 at the moment and these cards are actually faster than anything up to a 5700.

ATI 9800's are another good cheap option and will work fairly well with newer games too.

If your flush with cash then just get the best system you can afford, the faster the processor the better.

CAVEAT EMPORE (sp) Celeron processors are total dogs, go either genuine pentium or AMD.
TBH I've found I can get far better help/sensible discussion about different mods for rFactor on the LFS forum than on any of the rF forums or rF central. The rFactor community seems full of people who reckon they know it all and that mods must be right (best were the muscle cars with tires that pulled 2g and F430 road car with 360GT2 physics) because it's how they think it may vaguely be like IRL and completely rip into LFS for no reason, they're as bad as the worst LFS fanboys just less blessed in the brain department.
the gf4 mx is actually more like a gf2 so its dx6 compatible or something to that effect ... either way it wont be enough for a game that requires at least a gf4
