"Point to point" course (S3)
usually rally courses is "point to point" example: Start----------finnish
i hope to S3 comes such course becose thats might be much intresting than normal course. in normal courses u repeat througthout same. "point to point" course should be very long. maybe 15-30minutes. (1hour course doesn`t do bad anyone) thats exiting if between are mountain, forest, city... then u dont right away saturate same curves and landscapes... anyone wanna it to?

-Thanks positive and proper feedback. ye someone is right i little exaggerate "30minute long circuit". but anyone doesn´t compulsion you drive it. i think RAM its not problem. then when u select circuid thats load first textures ect.. in online that can works very well.. if little use brains and imagination. example how it can works:
u cant join when is race. back to start can devise some road. or when race is over, all go back to the pit.-
IIRC Scawen mentioned about this somewhere that it might be added at some point. Maybe not in the near future, but at some point.

That would be cool but there will be a RAM problem if it's too long!
not necessarily, just look at EA and their NfS series, they all load env while you drive in it...
Sou you'd just be travelling trough a virtual box, that's been rebuild/destroyed beyond your vision (a little bit like in stephen kings "langoliers" )

How would a track like that give any possibility of online competition? Point to point could be nice I guess, but 30 minutes long? People hardly drive the longer tracks as it is.
30 minutes long is a little too much. Also, the time it takes is not a good measurement, because theres different cars. The go karts have the advantage at corners, while the race cars really have the advantage at straights.

Mabey ike, 10 miles? Nurburgring is almost 13, and thats a circuit track.

10 miles is reasonable, so its not too boring. A touge, or mountain pass track would be perfect.

I think this is a GREAT idea. I want
me too, because running in circles gets a bit boring in time. Even with unusual combinations.

so yes.

regards
very good idea

how long it will be ... i think that can decide the devs they made the other tracks so good, i think they can make a point-to-point track as well
Technically, there is point to point course already. Drag strip, and also can do it on autox.

Also there's that legendary Rally Pack. Maybe it isn't only a rumour...
I really like the idea of point to point tracks, and believe the addition of such a track could increase the longevity of the game.

A good example of point to point racing is of course WRC.

But the point to point racing I'm really interested in and would love to see could be something similar to the great point to point style racing here in Australia. Such as;

Mt. Buller Sprint:

Course Map: http://www.mtbullersprint.com/ ... f/MtBullerTouristRoad.pdf

Targa Tasmania:

Course Map: http://www.targa.org.au/images ... ps/2007%20State%20Map.jpg
Detailed Maps: http://www.targa.org.au/Course/2007_Course/index.php

Targa Tasmania started this week by the way!

The racing could be done as in events such as these, with individual racers starting at set time intervals, say 10 or 20 seconds (It's minutes in real life I believe?). And if you catch up? Race clean, just as in a real Rally!
Times could be displayed as normal finishing times are done, and spectate until all the racers have finished, start again. Or just pit and run again? Just like a huge time trial session.
Or head to head races? (A la test drive 2! HAHAHA! )

I belive this would only benifit a sim of such high calibre (In terms of physics/On-line racing/community) as LFS. Drawing another segment of the market towards the sim.

Hopefully this comment is appreciated by the community, as my search on 'Mountain' tracks proved to bring up some threads with quite heated discussions! So if I am repeating anything, just note it as my enthusiasm for racing on courses such as these. (I decided to post in this thread as it most seemed to suit the what I wanted to contribute to, an idea for new tracks).
A point to point? It's called the drag strip you silly goose!
You're only about four posts late with that joke

Yes to rally stages on a variety of surfaces
I can see leagues having great fun with rally comps...

I really hope there will be a 30-40 minutes long point to point track in LFS
it's true that many people find long tracks hard and/or boring, but i personally enjoy long tracks the best. i think that if a very long point-to-point track was created, it would probably be a good idea to break it into stages, then people could practice or race short sections of the course, or choose to race the whole thing.

i'm thinking something that's about 20km long in total, broken into 3 or 4 stages of different lengths, ranging from say 2 to 8km each, would be good.

My thoughts exactly
Excellent idea evilgeek. I hadn’t thought of dividing it up if the complete track is too long. The stages could be used as short sprint races, and if desired the full track could be used for those wanting a greater challenge in focus and endurance! J
Your suggestion is like the Targa Tasmania. Several stages over several days.
Maybe the stages could even be done sequentially in online races. When one race ends, and everyone votes to restart it could go to the next stage? It’s just an idea anyway.

I can see it now, a winding tarmac road going uphill, with tall gum trees lining the side of the road on both sides, the drop to the left ever increasing in height the higher you climb, the tree line slowly changes from soaring gums into Alpine Ash and fernery.

We can all dream
Sounds good to me too. Also, a Rally SS stage (y'know, one-on-one figure 8 sort of thing, jumps, in an arena) would tie it up nicely
Wouldn't mind a couple of stages from the Classic Adelaide either, especially the bit that goes past my folks' place (earth bank on one side, steep drop through stringybarks into hill paddocks on the other, patchy tarmac the whole way) ... but as you said avaran, we can all dream
It would be nice if the stage could be very narrow too. Like several rally stage where overtaking is not possible.

I agree
+1 Hillclimbs/descends. Not only for rally cars but wide and small roadways suitable for even a GTR car.
30-40 minutes long point to point track with some very big stright
Well if a rally stage was added, it could have the same kinds of config options as we have now. Such as:

BL Rally = 30 miles
BL Rally Stage 1 = First 10 miles
BL Rally Stage 2 = Second 10 miles
BL Rally Stage 3 = Final 10 miles
BL Rally Sprint 1 = 5 miles; last part of Stage 1 / first part of Stage 2
BL Rally Sprint 2 = 5 miles; last part of Stage 2 / first part of Stage 3

Man, a dirt run through the Blackwood would be so cool
Hey guys been trying to find some onboard video's of the events mentioned earlier.

Mt Buller Sprint:

Ford XA GT Coupe: (Think Mad Max... )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXLO11xpn2s The placement of the camera is a bit off, but it's a great video to watch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElbKV-7SGto Shorter video of SS8 sped up with some music over the top (Nice start )

Edit Picture of a Ford XA GT Coupe

A quite boring spectator's point of view video (8= minutes)

It was easier to find Traga Tasmania videos

Targa Tasmania:

Jim Richards Porsche 911:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua5o6ozTj1Y

Davenport Day 1 2007 (Looks and sounds like a Nissan Skyline R32 GTR?):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6e_BRpTe_o

Classic Adelaide: (Hankster's Backyard :razz

Porsche 356 vs Ferrari Dino (When watching, remember they aren't playing with cheap plastic cars :schwitz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pj_C7ejUZE

There are heaps more videos floating around on You Tube, I'll have to try and get a copy of a friends video of his mates porsche 911 at the Mt Buller sprint!

If there was something like this in LFS.... mmmm. But they don't have to be exact replica's of these routes. Something containing the same essence... tight twisting corners, crowded forrest atmosphere, providing a thrill in the battle to be the fastest to the top!

I'll corss my fingers and keep dreaming in anticipation of such a great track or tracks in LFS. I hope Scavier have a look at these videos .
