Do you guys think that a E4300 clocked at 3.5ghz matched with a Nvidia 7900 GS (with slight OC) in a good quality computer will suffice for some LFS and CS:S playing?
~Bryan~

yup, although how do you plan on getting it to 3.5? will take a choice mobo and memory (although with the E4300 it will be easy if you have quality bits)
Well I'm throwing it on a Asus P5N-E SLI which supports 400mhz fsb. It will be matched with some OCZ Special Ops 6400. And topped with a Scythe Mine to keep things cool. I've seen 3.5 on air a few times, so I figure it won't be too hard.

erm, the P5N-E SLi is... ok, the OCZ should be ok, the Scythe? well, i would get a Tuniq Tower, and your MUCH more likely to get 3 on air than 3.5
Yea the Asus isn't FINAL, but its staying there untill I can find something for a better deal. This whole PC with monitor will be a tad under $1,400. I was looking into the Tuniq, and honestly, from all the reviews I've read, the Scythe kicks its ass.
~Bryan~
EDIT: http://www.nordichardware.com/ ... ?page=5&skrivelse=500 there they had one running 3501mhz on 1.475 vcore, and heat wasn't too extreme.
#6 - Jakg
...err, what reviews have you read? the Tuniq was THE air cooler, but the Coolermaster GeminII is better, but its more expensive and you need to bring your own fans.

If you don't need SLi, go for the Gigabyte DS3 (or the S3) or the Asus P5B Deluxe
Nahh I want the SLI for futre, maybe throw on an extra 7900...
~Bryan~
#8 - Jakg
why? 7900GS's in SLi get beaten by any 8800 - SLi is only worth it if you either get the cards VERY cheap or if they are THE two best cards on the market, plus you woulnd't get DX10 with 7900's
Well I'm canadian, and the 8800's are $800. And I can get a XFX 7900 GS Extreme for $150...

how much is an 8800GTS 320 Mb? how much will you have spent buying two 7900's compared to them or the 8600?
Well I can't find the 8600. The 8800 GTS (320MB) is $750, I'll take a look online, because at the rate things are going, I'll have no wallet if I buy locally.
~Bryan~
#12 - Jakg
the 8600 isn't out yet!

Not sure wtf's up with your prices, here a GTS 320 is £200, and a 7900GS is £100
Meh I'm canadian what do you expect. I just found www.ncix.com and it seems to be a good place to build up a PC, their prices are reasonable.

in the UK we get RAPED on PC prices, although from memry ncix aren't bad, ever looked into drop-shipping from newegg? (namely, they ship it to a delivery company who ship it to you)
Ouch. newegg is american. And your saying they ship to somebody, who ships over the border to me? No thanks, I'd rather not have my ass ripped open by customs duty and shipping fee's.
~Bryan~
#16 - Jakg
that was what i meant, but by someone i meant a shipping company - i have no idea if its cheaper, but it would be worth looking at
I'd imagine it would cost more. Plus after reading the Ncix shipping policy its looking nice, I can pick every exact component, and they will put it together and test it. I can also leave the builder notes to do certian things. And for an extra $6 I can get them to double box it.

erm, what do you mean "put it together and test it" - whats the point? if its DoA then you can RMA it, and you should know its all compatible
Will you two get a room, this is a forum not a chat room.
#20 - Jakg
were not chatting, if it was lots of people but the same content would it be chat? no

look, it's not my fault im an overclock-whore (with my minor 40% overclock...) and happen to have a ton of research into C2D overclocking stuff (because thats a road i'd like to go down)
Feel free to join in haha. It's only pretty much a two way because nobody else is giving opinions. And its boiling down to either dropping on a Core 2 (e4300, e6300) along with a Ge-Force 7*** or cheaping out with a Pentium D 915 (they still hit almost 4ghz) and going with a 320MB 8800 GTS. Yea...I think I know what I have to do...

well in March the 8600 comes out for $200 USD, that should replace the 7900 series

My opinion is this : Whatever you can afford, buy it. The performance gain of things in the same price range is minimal, infact its probably not even noticable. It all comes down to money and how much you can spend and when you're next going to upgrade to a newer system.
Yea I was looking at the unvailing of the 8600 series from Nvidia and figured I should hold off untill then. And yes Jakq spams. But he hasn't spammed this thread, he's actually been quite helpfull
