Hey,

I'm making a mobile phone (or some sort of handheld device) app for my final year project. Problem is i can think of anything to do it on... I'll be using Macromedia Flash Lite which is a stripped down version of Flash that will run on devices with limited memory and processing power.
I best idea i can think of atm is some sort of application you could download via the browser on your phone when you enter the zoo for example (aimed at kids btw ) and it will give you a map of the zoo that you can interact with and find out more information about the zoo and it's animals.
Anyone got any good idea?

Also as a side project i'd like to do something involving LFS.... anyone got any ideas? What LFS content (realisticly) would you like to have as an application on your Flash Enabled phone?

Your zoo ideas is pretty sweet. Kind-of a child-oriented GPS system. Why not have the map of the place, complete with candy-shops, animals, and other attractions, in a graphic GPS sort of way. Also, have it detect North/South so that the map is always facing the right way, with a 'You Are Here' blip?

That's my idea for it anyways. :P

LFS content? Hmm... how about something that would enable you do view LFS:W on the phone? (basically internet on the phone I suppose though..)

Had thought of that but there is noway of getting your GPS co-ordinates through Flash Lite. Also know way of your handset knowing if your facing North, South, East or West.
But the detailed map with shops, toilets, cafes etc is a good idea.
Maybe you could move the 'you are here' dot by yourself as you walk around?

I think it would have to be more 'aspects' of LFSWorld, i.e. the lastest WR Laps submitted or something. I'd have to convert the PHP information into a .txt file 1st i think.... i'll look into that

I hears about that before, but i dont think it's that accurate, i think it's onlt within 20metres. For the purpose of the zoo 20m is too big an inacuracy. I like the pub crawl think! great idea! ha ha ha!!!

LFS Spectator on your mobile! That way you can watch the race you are missing when the bus breaks down, or your internet connection on your PC decides to go tits up.

The trouble is mobile internet costs (be it WAP or GPRS) are high, so it's not really viable.

i dont think a mobile phone processor could hack all that work, would be nice though

Make a top down version of LFS for Mobiles, featuring ONLY the cars and tracks in LFS (all of em too, each with different characteristics). I guess most mobilephones/smartphones/pda's can run java games (is that the best language to make games on a phone with?), and it'd be cool racing 'AI' on the train, or perhaps friends via Infrared/Bluetooth. Perhaps a 4 player bluetooth option.

Anyways, if you're going to use flash, that costs to distribute per phone does it not? Anyways, depending on what exactly you'll be wanting to do either j2me (java) or then symbian c++ would be the way to reach most targets.

I HATE Java with a passion... maybe it was just the lecturer's i had in college but man i really hate that language. I love flash and i am experimenting with Flash Lite hence why i'm doing a project with Flash

I have made simple applications with J2ME before and it's just not as interactive as Flash and the Flash Apps tend to look and function better imo.

NOKIA have signed a deal with Macromedia to include most of their upcoming handsets with the Flash player or Flash Lite player.
