The online racing simulator
A couple of questions after not playing for a couple of years...
Hi, hope someone can help. I bought LFS S1 back in 2004 an have version S1E. I decided its time I gave it another go as I have a dfp wheel and racing seat sitting here doing nothing and want to get back into racing games. Firstly I want to get S1 upto date and working but can not connect to the server to validate my unlock key. I have turned off my firewall just in case but it made no difference, just says can not connect to the master server. Also I am entering my original unlock key, will this still work or will I have to request a new one?

Then once I have this working I want to go to S2. Once I have paid for S2 do I need to patch S1 to the last update there was for it first or can I go to S2 straight from S1E?

Thanks for any help

Oh and will a 9800 Pro 128mb video card be OK for S2 or do I need something more powerful? Its on a P4 2.4 with 1.5gb of RAM - not played pc games for years as got stuck into consoles.
you need to redownload LFS completely, we are no longer given keys like we were back in S1, nor .. are we even in S1 lol

and i'm sure your card can cope

That will be just fine

im on an XP2400@2266 ,9700pro and 1 gig of ram and it runs beautifully, with everything up full and 2*AA/8*AF, plus high res track textures and skies.

The only thing i do have on is the multiplayer speedup option, so i occasionally ,for the first 1/4 lap (at most)have slightly ugly looking opponents cars.(but not if your at the front of the grid ) apart from that it runs at 50-100 fps all the time.

Welcome back to 'real' gaming
Cheers for the replies I'll just download S2 then and forget about S1.
The popular misconception is that S2 is referring to the software, when it isn't. S2 is a level of content, which requires a license. The game itself, which should ideally be referred to as currently being v0.5W, can be unlocked to any level of content for which you have a license. So you can continue to play with your S1 license with the latest .exe version. Ditch v0.3E, that really is ancient. That's back when the MRT5 was first added, there have been TONS of improvements since then. Download and enjoy.
Thanks. Installed S2 and put in my details so its found my S1 license Going to have a play and get back into it and then upgrade to S2 once i've got used to the dfp as used to play it with keyboard. Thanks for the help.

bob, 0.5E?? The MRT was added in 0.3H AFAIK...
Just had a quick go and all I can say is :wow:

0.5 was a typo. But the MRT5 was added with 0.3E, thank you. 0.3F was the new KB steering system (inspired by the introduction of the MRT5) along with hardware vertex shading support, G was unreleased, H finally brought that long awaited feature... skidmarks.

Although admittedly I wrote that part of the manual, it's still right. Get yer facts straight!

Naturally anything on a wiki is gospel
