Is XP3200+ as good as you need with LFS?
So a simple question: will LFS benefit at all from having a better processor? If I had a Radeon X1950Pro AGP, Matrox TripleHead2GO using 3840x1024 and a full grid in online play with my system would I get a smooth play? My current system: MSI KT600 motherboard XP3200+ Barton (11x200fsb) 3x512mb ram Radeon 9700 Pro AGP Dell 20" wide screen TFT So I am just day dreaming. Should I be happy with my current rig, or would the graphics and display upgrade do good?
I'm typing my messages with line breaks, but when I post, all the text is in one block. It does not look very good. What am I doing wrong?
That system is ok.. I would say you should keep that until you can really afford a new pc. The new Intels or even AMD64 chips are just a lot LOT quicker. Only with such a new CPU will it make sense to get a faster graphics card as well.

My rig is a Athlon 3200 64 bit CPU with a 6600GT video card 1 gb ram in dual channel config and LFS plays great with full field and most graphic options turned up full, I run at 1024 x768 32 bit resolution n a 17" CRT monitor

I get consistent 85 fps under all conditions and I'm happy with that, I find I don't need to have bragging rights on 200 plus frame rates at 3000 x 2000 type resolutions

My eyes like it ho its set

What's up same basic system buddy!

OP - LFS seems pretty dependent on the CPU. An AthlonXP will definitely hold back that video card. How much money do you have at your disposal? There's plenty of people around here who could help you get setup pretty nicely if you give us some basic constraints and needs to work with.

Thats what I was saying same specs as what the OP was thinking about getting and it works fine at a low cost, the current trend to must have Intel because this week it is X % faster is just a temporary thing. The two chips makers always end up very equal within a few months

AMD is fast enough for LFS and thats what the OP was talking about, not video production or extreme gaming or business use which I then would also say atm go Intel if that was the primary need

Well the specific AMD he has is a generation old, so it's lagging behind pretty severely. I doubt it could even keep up with the cheapest budget CPU's that are out today. Also Intel has been ahead for more than a few months now. But yes, they do seem to take turns being on top, doesn't help the OP's case though.
