Hi Techie people One and All.

I have been asked to supply a 9 pin Serial to Cat5 adaptor. I have attached a couple of pictures, as I can only seem to find a 15 pin to Cat 5 adaptor.

Does anybody have any idea what on earth this is, and where to obtain on in the UK please.

Regards

Fordie

I can find a few by Googling for 'rj45 to db9'.
A starting point for you anyway Smile
You can get 'em from ebay, and other places.

Any old standard DB9 to RJ45 should do. If you've had any decent cisco boxes recently, they usually come with them in the box, along with power cabling, etc. Might be worth hunting around.

Usually you use them to talk via console to cisco routers, switches, and other things. The idea is that you can patch a cable up and talk directly to them over the network, without having to faff with going to the server room and plugging in DB9 to DB9 connections. Unfortunately they have a slightly different arrangement of cabling to regular cat5, hence the converter is required.

If you get really stuck, gimme a shout. I *think* I've got a spare I can post up. I'll go and check when I get a sec Big grin

Edit: I've just checked, I've only got a [rather long] DB9 to RJ45 lead - this may not be what you want Frown
We use these all the time at work, from RS in both male and female DB9 arrangements, they're supplied unassembled so you can manage your own pinouts.

They come in a range of coloursThumbs up

RS catalogue, section 4 , page 271-2. Part numbers 818-693 or 818-700 if you like black.
