Country Flags.
This is purely for fun. I was thinking how when we all post on the forums we have our countries flag on next to our name. It would be fun when you enter your name in LFS, if in the character selection screen there are little flags you can pick for your country. This flag wouldn't take away from the amount of characters you can use for your name, it just added on at the end.

Would be fun when the race resualts come up to see country flag next to player names. I find it interesting see people from all over the world racing together, and it would add realism since in real motor sports the drivers name does have his country of origin flag next to it.
Hehe, this would be a nice thing. Would be nice to see where about's some of the racers are from.

+1, although already suggested many times!
+1, but remove the other flag.

There are people who don't want to show their countries. The other flag is for that reason.

I remember you making the same suggestion before. You're obsessed with getting me to wave a Union Jack for you. illepall

It's a non reason.

What about people who don't want to show their licence name? Should they have that option? Real racing licences have a nationality on, they should in LFS.

Yeah, yeah. And on the GTR windows.

The license name is an important identifier, the driver's nationality isn't important at all.

-1 again.

Licence name is quite different, you can choose your licence name. Well, you can choose the country too, but what is the use of displaying some bogus country if you don't want to show your real one? Having a 'other' option is better.
Actually, don't real racing licenses show the driver's name, date of birth, address, photograph and so on?

We should totally require all those too. In the meantime, duke_toaster can go uber-realistic and display all his personal information and wait for the rest of us to catch up.
Yep, I'd like it as a option if you want to use it. Not that everyone has to. Right now we have people wanting there country intials. "USA" "GER", "UK", etc, and using the coding for characters to give the characters colors. Why not just have the country flag as a option if the person wants it. I wanted |HMS| Klax USA but the code for characters and colors ran out for me so I can't have it.

lol... her majesty's ship/service the united states of america?
Yes I get the HMS thing. But it's for Horizon Motor Sport.
I've been thinking about this also, but there is a problem here. On the forum, we're known by one name only, thus adding a flag to it is easy. In LFS however, you can have multiple drivers so you need to select a flag for each... this means being able to select from a massive list of flags within the driver screen... which I'm sure is possible, though there are a lot of flags to choose from :-o

I've been wanting this for my formula renault FOX skins... in the mean time I've been releasing different versions of a skin with different flags and racing numbers to represent different drivers.

Flags are right behind racing numbers in my priority list, though they would be much easier to implement!

There's a lot of things in RL racing that LFS doesn't feature, so "because they have it in RL" is a non-reason imho. Who cares where your opponent's from when you're two inches away, fighting for a position? We all drive in the same "language"

I've no objection to the feature, for the record, but why force people to do something if they don't want to? Why can't people choose not to show a flag and leave it at that?
This would be boss. I love racing with people from all over, it's a very appealing feature that should be represented.

I think privacy concerns obviously trump this. No reason to exclude those who don't wish to reveal any details outside of LFS.
As I said before, custom flags are similar to custom racing numbers. I was thinking about how racing numbers would be implemented (font textures, data files, etc) and it is simply too complicated to implement under the current skin system in LFS. LFS has such a powerful system in place to allow your car to look however you please, so if you want a racing number or FLAG then just paint it on This is of course less convenient for some, but it gives us total freedom. We can paint the flag anywhere we want, just as I have been doing with my skins thus far.
This for me is not about the flag painted on your car, it's a flag that appears next to your name on the score board. Have a flag as a Character in the characters to choose from when typing your name. On my BF1 skin for my mythical team, I do have the U.S. flag right behind my head, it's really small. Would be neat to see the country flag next to the drivers name on the score board. This would be a option not something forced on to anyone. This is no different then when you race online seeing countless drivers with "FRA", "AUS", "GER", "USA" at the end of there name in there flags colors.

Or how different drivers use different characters to make words. Such as Red Line Racing using Japanese characters to make there R's.
ooh I see what you mean. sorry.

Not a bad idea actually, considering a lot of people colour their name in flag colours anyway. Of course it should be optional. And it shouldn't be displayed on chat messages either, just the standings list.
I remember the argument the last time this was suggested

I'm all for it, and I don't see why the "Other" flag shouldn't be included as an option as well.

it would be usefull for the people that live in the country next door that aren't very sure what their own flag is
^^^Or for people tired of being embarassed by thier countrymen, or taking flack for where they are from
Hmm my flag idea got me thinking. One yes to have a non country flag for people that didn't want to put there country. Or a tiny LFS logo flag to use. Plus you have the option of not using a flag all together.

Then I got thinking in your driver creation screen under driver name why not have a Team field to put in a full team name? With a expanded number of characters and color code to use. The full "Team Name" would also be displayed on the score board in one of two ways. Either written smaller under the drivers name on it's own line. This would work, but when you have W17 with 32 drivers on the track, the team name would be tiny. So maybe another option where you hit a key command. Like we do now to see licence holder names, not race names. You hit the key command and the score board switches to the team names for each driver. Only while you have those keys are pressed. Letting go of them switches back to the drivers name on the score boards, or on the N menu's. The country flag would still be listed at the end of each line for either driver name or team name when displayed. Then again when you have team name displayed, that driver may have a option that the team field can put in a new flag. So if you are a British racer is on a mainly German team, the flag for the team maybe German, not the drivers Union Jack.
