e-Break?
This may or may not be the right place for this so if its not. sorry, please move or delete.

I've looked through the forums and yet to find any home made e-breaks. I have many old electronics around so if you have any ideas or DIY guides please let me know.

I have a MOMO coming UPS Monday so Ive already got a wheel to use.

Break in case of emergency?
I think an e-break is where you stop work for a bit and browse the internet.
what kind of impression you think his gonna have on the community with you two comming out with those comments...

I haven't heard of any E-brake/Handbrake tutorials, although you might be able to use the H-shifter tut, which uses a joystick, to help you out?

Clicky
Im not looking for an H shifter, i can deal with the one on the MOMO... For now anyway.

I'm wanting an e-break for drifting... mostly in NFS:Carbon and Most wanted but it would also be nice to have in LFS lol
Just so you understand the first two comments, I think you ought to know that it is in fact 'brake' (to slow down) not 'break' (to accidentantly reduce to component parts or have a rest from an activity)
oh haha, i feel stupid now. i meant e-brake. sorry about any confusion lol

you mean you want a handbrake for your computer? right?
If you look at the link that BenjiMC supplied you will be able to apply the same principals to making an handbrake. After all it's all about switches, weather you make that switch to change a gear or initiate a handbrake it makes no difference.
Yes, im looking for a hand brake for my computer. I've only got $10 so it has to be cheap/DIY lol

well in the lack of ideas i went out in my garage and tore up a 2 button joystick, computer bezel, and a old 5.25" floppy disk container and added a wooden dowl.

I'm going to test it when i reinstall a game port and will let you know how it turns out.

i've been really tempted to get my old ACT Labs pedals and put the pots to good use - i think they'd actually be pretty good.

Shame i'm not so damn cack-handed!

Oh, I am on FIRE today!!! "Just so you understand the first two comments..."

Tristan, you are slipping!

For the original post... Check the hardware forum on RSC. A good bit of info there on everything you could want to build as a controller.
I looked there and only found 1 person who had one... and they didnt have a guide on it

Shouldn't be too hard.

Strip all the mechanics off of an old petal, and mount a suitable lever to one of the pots whilst the pot is resting in the lowest impedance position possible (just use an ohm-meter to check).

Put the rest of the PCBs and other random electronics in an enclosure of some sort, and mount your little lever and pot setup onto something.

Then just plug in the contraption and mount the axis you want to use as a handbrake.
I originally took apart a 2 button 2 axis joystick and made a e-brake and had it use button 1 on the joystick... but i broke it playing too hard haha, so i rebuilt it so now the front/back axis is clutch (mounted on a old 3Com 24Port hub hahah) and the Left/right axis is the e-brake witch i tied to my left arm rest and removed the right. lol
Quote from Killzone123 :hay i think the best way to make a handbrake is to get like peddles and get the little gizMo in it and modd it and stuff

Wow, that is so descriptive

after i get my MOMO today or tomorrow I will take some pics of my cheap e-brake and clutch with a Lego peddle
