I'm not in Sweden
For internet gaming it would really rock, no more lag AT ALL, so in lfs no more weird bouncing off people because the packages could be sent times a million or something
Wow downloading movies (legally) would be extremly fast.

Haven't got a clue about illegally though

at a wild wild guess I'd say the infrastruture will not exsist for at least the next 50 years
marvells about the near future...

Erm, no HDD can do 40 Gigabit a second so whats the point?

The point is a 70 y/o Sweed woman went into the history books becsause her hubby works in Cisco
Quote from Jakg :Erm, no HDD can do 40 Gigabit a second so whats the point?

It`s fast, thats why ;P
Why need to be usefull, as long as it is as fast as that crazy line.

Well, I would really like to have 1TB storage on my computer, and connect to that internett line Damn, could downloaded everything I wanted, just have to make sure it`s from high-speed places!
Quote from The Very End :I would really like to have 1TB storage on my computer,

That's not difficult..I got 2*250 SATA's, 1*160 IDE & 2*400 USB HD's...
All that = 1.46 Tb...and I built my system on the cheap!
Quote from Jakg :Erm, no HDD can do 40 Gigabit a second so whats the point?

RAID?
Hehe, I know
Just me that is used to my HD on 120GB lol ;D
Hardly handles LFS alone now, with all the skins!

Lol, I have 111 GB hard drive (says it's 120, F* that), I use like 30 gigs, I always keep wondering how people can get a full hard drive Got no music though...

Quote from pb32000 :RAID?

RAID what? a Raptor setup wont touch that...

This is from an overclocking forum showing 3 Raptors in RAID0 moving 3.613 GB/s peak, and 171 MB/s sustained, with some WD drives moving an average of 219 MB/s. 40 Gigabit is roughly 5 GB/s, so even rebadged 10k RPM SCSI drives on a Sata interface can't get that close sustained.
It's a proof on concept you silly nerds, take it easy.

Although...how on earth did they measure it is the issue right?
Oh lord... I`m lost..
Ok, to put it simply
"you need a post count equal to or higher than 9000 to understand this"

Doubt it, most places to download from would only be able to handle a fraction of that.
I don't think that's the world's fastest.. Google sure has a faster one I guess.
It doesn't. You'd be surprised - Google doesn't need particularly high speed connections or powerful machines. They just have lots of them.
Quote from Lible :I don't think that's the world's fastest.. Google sure has a faster one I guess.

These connections do already exist, they say this if the fastest, non-commercial line. Of course some companies already have this. They want to prove it's not only possible to do for companies, but for everyone.

The future of that sort of high speed internet is more for movies on demand and pay TV broadcasts accross the interenet things that only need temporary storage in memory - doesn't need to be saved to hard disks....

yup and streaming 40gbit to ram is possible ... theoretically at least
plus it doesnt really matter if youre ever going to use all that speed as long and youve got enough to never have to worry about it for the next 20 years ... so what ?
