Dont think so. They only turn off if you hit something with reasonable force as far as i know. But what i mean is, say your indicating left to turn left, and you do the manouver, your indicator is automatically cancelled when your wheel returns to centre in real life.
So why have them atall =] O/T its a fine suggestion, but im sure if sum1 wanted them to turn off they could make a program to do it when the wheel returns to the centre
Solution: Don't use your indicators. If you start signalling to other racers they won't know what it means anyway; are you saying 'Pass on this side' or are you saying 'I am staying to this side'?
So yeah, don't use them. You'll get in less accidents, less arguments, and - best of all - you won't have to worry about turning them off again afterwards.
Great idea, we can get this along with new training lessons entitled "three point turn" and "parallel park". A third lesson, "emergency stop", was considered, but was deemed unnecessary.
You do use your indicators when racing road cars sometimes on some tracks. They mean on the track what they mean in real life, "I'm going this way, use caution". To even contemplate over peoples understanding of indicators is well, beyond me.
You use the signal to tell the guy behind you to pass on the OPPOSITE side (they always point to where you're going to go yourself).
You can see this in a lot of Nordschleife videos on YouTube. I've never seen them used in an actual race, but that's probably because the only races I watch with different classes on the track at the same time are Le Mans series.
Signals can be really useful in LFS. (If bound to the mouse or wheel...)
As per the OP: -1, but I'd like to be able to press the same signal button again to turn it back off, à la push-push. (instead of using an extra off button).
Not always. A while back there was a large discussion on what using an indicator meant on the track. I'd say it was split ~50/50 on whether it was the same as on road, or opposite where you are indicating to the other driver which side to pass on.
Signals are ok, as mentioned they can be used, but auto-canceling indicators have no use on the track because it's not like you are going to turn your wheel so much that you would really turn the indicator off while giving a way to faster car.
Not a fan of the indicators, really...but to each his own.
I would like though, to see some hand guestures.
Like a "thanks" hand out the window (or even better on the single seaters). Or a "pass me" wave... And to make up for the lack of detail that is really there, you could have the message (only prebuilt messages, no custom) show above the car... like "pass right" or "pitting this lap" so people behind you can know whats going on.
Well, I guess if they used the books for teaching purposes, that there must be some truth in it right?
So far I havent found anything that backs up what you were saying, so if you think you can write more intelligent replies, please do
