Test Race 11/10/2007 Feedback
I think we made some nice and fun races tonight. I just uploaded the replays of the Aston Club Session and Fern Bay Green Session. (ca. UTC 19.15 - 20.15)
http://rapidshare.com/files/61 ... tTestEvent_Oct11.zip.html

On my mind, we raced very cleanly. It was realy fun.
By the way, I'm sorry for the crash at start in the second race of Fern Bay. I just presed CTRL+S instead of SHIFT+S.

One thing I have to mention (again) is the Safety of some tracks. Today my issus are based on the ground of Fern Bay Green's first chicane.
I sweet more when passing it, then when I'm running a (RL) 10km bicycle race. The crashes we had have in this chicane were semi bad. But if we race with more then 15 racers we will have serious crahses "en masse"!

Hey Falke, don't worry about it - we are testing lots of different race tracks - so some will be more dangerous than others...

this way - if you can drive good therem then the ones we pick for the league should be easy (er)
Yeah was good fun, i had to settle in first. There were some issues but nothing compared to last testing. Although there wasnt as much racers this time but very clean and fair.

Indeed,

The racing was much cleaner and also i would say looking at the names on the sheet they were also more experienced drivers too.

There are still a few issues needing to be resolved thou (as i know it's only practice)

Pit Exit Line
Leaving the pits in qualy or race - please obey the not crossing yellow line rule. REGARDLESS of whether qualifying has just started or not.

It's a RULE, don't cross it (PERIOD!)

Lag Lap
Standard practice for a lag lap. The idea is to check people connections and the people are not lagging. Please drive sensibly on this lap. Reversing off the start line from the front row will not be tolerated!

3 wide
It is possible but just remember that if you are 3 wide or at least 2 wide, check your mirrors before changing lines.

What was noticed last night was lots of 3 car crashes where by the out side guys did not realise they were 3 wide and were changing their lines to get the best enterance to the next corner.
9 times out of 10 they outside guys will get spun around by the middle car, but 9 times out of ten it is becuase they changed their lines.
Think before changing lines with 2 or more wide. The small UFR can easily get spunb on it's axis due to the lack of weight and short wheelbase.

Cheers,

Dru.
guilty of 3 wide bit but in my defence johnny shouldnt have really been in the place he was but then thats that. i left abruptly last night cos our dishwasher went up the creek and blew the electrics and as my dad needed to turn it off again i cdould only pop on and tell jack on ts what was wrong

The Baby-R isnt going to be racing that config, nor the Aston one, personally i dont really understand the point of these test races when they go to places that the series wont be racing on. So yesterday you guys found out FE2 isnt a good venue... but it means nothing because its not one of the rounds. Surely doing FE2R makes more sense, it lets those who are taking part get a feel for the track with other people they'll be racing with rather than most days where your either on your own or 3-4 others are around maybe.

I just dont get the point, you guys drove round 2 tracks with no importance for the sake of it, anything you've learnt from it and more could have been picked up driving round a track the series will be racing at, whats the benefit of going to locations rejected for the actual series.

As for that chicane, its much easier in the other direction and unless you've got someone side-by-side and both of you are stupid enough to not give up the place, then there wont be any problems there, most cars can take that chicane without any trouble in reversed config, normal config is an entirely different matter.

Test Races are to make sure that the people running the series know how to do everything.

It also gives us the chance to deal with situations in a 'test' race rather than find out at round 1 that 'this part' or 'that part' is ruined..

Personally EVERY track is a good venue... some people crash more than others... thats life.

You are indeed correct Paul that we are running tracks that will not be in the series - the reason why, well we don't want to kill the series by have X many practice races on the track that the real race will be on, that's why we change it

The final reason for making the test races is to ensure that the standard of driver entries are up to a good enuff standard and that means being a better driver than just being able to do a particular track.

We did that last year with the UF1 - the practice races centred around just a few tracks.... this meant that the true speed and ability of entrants were not what we thought.

For instance, for the Mayhem cup last season, in hindsight i wished I had did the same sort of practice pre-event, this way we could have seen who was commited to the series and it's races, also who would have made a one division chapionship that would have given a full grid every week with a complete mixture of speed, experience, attitude etc etc making for a better series than it was.

Personally i feel that the practice/test races are doing their job's admiralby and as a result we are better off for doing them and doing them the way we currently are.

Also, as a side note, you must realise that we are still 4 weeks from the start, so plenty of practice races left, and i'm sure that a few league tracks will pop up during that time

Regards,

Dru.
I wasnt saying dont do them, all im saying is that surely everything that you learn from a random track can be done at any track. Doing it at a track that you want people to race on and be familiar with racing side by side with people, rather than them doing offline practice and then turning up and driving with no idea how to race round there, just how to hotlap.

You've got a decent crowd of people, and everyone would learn more about the tracks the series will race on, this can only benefit the quality of racing in the series. If the whole idea of not going to tracks used this season is so people wont get bored with the series then christ i think we have bigger problems! People dont get bored, everyone will hopefully be practicing all these combos, you guys sure as hell have been the last 5 weeks, but when we have 10+ people for some reason rather than take advantage of the session and give those that bother turning up the advantage of a little extra knowledge and experience at those combo's because they know how to race with others round there. Instead those people learn how to race round somewhere that makes no difference, they'll learn a few things, but they could learn much more at the correct tracks and as ive said, surely that makes for better racing for all when the season starts.

Testing sessions are a good idea, but while you have everyone there i think we should take advantage of it and get some experience of racing at them, everyone can practice on their own whenever they feel like it, but once a week everyone meets up and that time could be used better IMO, it has benefits for everyone, especially the series.

You have some valid points there certainly Paul

I think the practice races we have done so far:

FE1 - LEAGUE TRACK
SO4R - LEAGUE TRACK

AS1 - not league track
FE1 - LEAGUE TRACK

FE2 - not league track
SO1 - LEAGUE TRACK

AS2 - not league track
SO1 - LEAGUE TRACK

see we've done a mixture, trouble is some people only stick around for one of the 2 evenings races

Like i say, we've got 4 weeks left. I'm sure most of the tracks will be league ones, but the odd non-league one as well.

Variety is the spice of life...

...also i get fed up of besating everyone anyway on the normal league tracks, best give the others a chance eh? (J/K)
anyone up for some racing tonight
No matter what track you drive its all about fun and learning. I do agree with dru here. For instances look at the current BOTT league. To me it looks like people doing 50 laps like hotlapping. They spent all there time practising there buttox off for 1 track.

I think the close racing and different tracks during these test periods are great. Great relaxed enviroment. People share sets and stuff. If you look at the BOTT league there isnt a relax enviroment. ALso people dont share sets.

No remakrks against you paul but i like the different tracks through out the test nights.

@ james Aye where ??
well if the zwr server is running it there at anout 8pm uk time

BOTT is full of a lot of "elite" teams who i must confess really aren't that nice, leagues like the STCC are a lot more "friendly" in terms of drivers - one of the reasons why i've pulled out of BOTT driving.
Funny Jakg you pulled out after racing against Niels Mmmm I wonder

Back on topic Sorry lads can't make fridays as got other pressing engagements.
