Help with angled paint (top to bottom)
Hi,
Just finished a FOX skin with a simple angled paint section through the middle of the car from top to bottom. I had to do a lot of goofing around to get the top down sections to line up with the side sections.
I'm wondering how other skinners are doing this ... especially with more complex patterns?

I used the "Master Skinners Pro Kit" to view the layers on a wire frame, and had to move the top down layers next to the side layers ... and mark the bottom and top in order to get the paint to line up. There must be an easier way.

Thanks for any help.
I want to do a similar skin for the new FB02, once a pro kit is available. It looks like it would be harder to do on the FB02, since it has more curves throughout.

It is really just a case of saving, previewing, moving and repeating for lining up some parts.

You will find though that the more skins you make, the more accurate your first guesses will be
It's just a matter of aligning the different parts with whatever you want to use.

I use a wireframe if available and sometimes just guess the correct place for a wrapping graphic, check it in cmx viewer and then adjust. Sometimes, if I'm doing something more demanding, I use a couple of guide lines in photoshop.
Trial and err be the way
Thanks for the replies.
Trial and error it is

Yup mostly trial and error.
Here's a tip which can save you a lot of time though;
Look into Photoshop's "Actions" feature. It allows you to record macro like scripts that save a lot of time on often repeated tasks (like hiding the wireframe, then choosing save, select the format, etc.). Once you have that set up (which is very easy to do), you can perform all these actions automatically by just pressing a button.
Try laying a curve over the engine cover/sidepod.
