Sorry if this is in the wrong section but i am new anyway i would like to know what is the best/easiest to use controller i do karting so i am used to a steering wheel so would that be the best option and if it was what wheel i am getting a g25 for x-mas is this a wise choice?
g25? very wise i havent got one but my friend has one and he uses it for rfactor but i can tell you its awesome i was about to get one myself but thought of building new pc so i'll pass
...count yourself lucky if youre getting a G25 for X-mas, if you do you'll loose you're social life like the rest of us rubber chasing zombies! ZoooOOOmmmG!
G25 is clearly the best yet still affordable package there is. If you have no qualms about the price, go for it. There is qualitatively higher and more professional stuff out there, but then you're easily adding one or two zeros behind the price tag (and I mean in front of the decimal point ).
I used to use (and still have packed away) a Microsoft Sidewinder non FF. I decided to upgrade after about 10 years use of the sidewinder and went for the G25. Since then I haven't looked back. The fact that the FF is superb (depending on your settings and how you want to feel the bumps in the road). Plus the fact that it has the H shifter and clutch pedal makes it ideal if you want more of a real life feeling.
I know for sure that this wheel is going to be getting a lot of use (which it has already since I bought it in Sept '07) and won't let me down since all major parts are metal and not plastic.
I will proberly use it about 1-3 hours a day so is it worth £85 just for a clutch pedal and the H pattern gearbox does it make you go any quicker and is the wheel its self any better
Having played on a DFP and owning a G25, i would definetely say the G25 is better. The pedals and wheel itself are alot better and can take alot more abuse than the plastic DFP. The FFB on the G25 is sublime, and alot quiter compared to that *horrible* noise the DFP makes. The only thing that is'nt *too* great about the G25 is the shifter, it feels abit too light and resistance free for my liking. You may have heard its weedy, but i can assure you, its utter bollocks
While it may feel weedy, its certainly not. It can also take alot of abuse, and since the revised version came out, logitech have said the reverse problem should have been fixed, and i have had my new one (which is the revised version) for about 2-3 months, and it has lasted very well with no problems at all. But, if your only going to play LFS a few hours at a time, then get a DFP and S2, but if you play other games like RACE07, TDU and rFactor alot, go and buy a G25...NOW!!!
p.s, wheels can make you go quicker. If you have never used a wheel before, you will be alot slower but after a few days of practice, you will be on par with what you was with kayboard or whatever you was using, and over time, you will get better and better and better. It just depends on how you use the wheel, and most importantly, it needs to be setup correctly!
p.s2, viper, you have me confused. Have you already purchased a G25? because, in this thread http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=35098 , you say you are waiting for your G25 to arrive? :/
don't worry, you haven't made a mistake (unless you are really short on money)
Having both wheels, the only thing I like more with the DFP is that it has all buttons on the wheel, while the G25 only has most of them on the shifter.
Other than that the G25 is the best wheel available for a reasonable price.
Don't be worried about making the wrong decision in buying the G25 coz you didn't.
Before I bought mine I did some research and before I made my final decision I asked a bunch of people what their opinion was on both wheels. Everybody I spoke to said to get the G25. I know people who have G25's also and they can't believe how much more realistic the car feels.
The new patch has added more realistic features to the game and the G25 just enhances those features a whole lot more. Believe me, when you get used to it you will not want to put it away and keep driving for hours.
My team mates and I start our night of racing every night about 8:30pm (Aus time) and before we know it we've had a great time and it's 3am. Time flies when you're having fun. All of us have G25's so there is also a fair amount of setup advice being swapped around to help make the race experience more fun.
