lots of questions
Hi all

I'm an avid player of lfs in the solo player mode. Being disabled and driving with a mouth control I'm not confident enough to play on multi player mode so pretty much stick to hot laps and occasional races against npcs.

I've got a couple of questions I'd appreciate answers to
I've got s2 but I haven't kept up with the patches. I am wanting to get up-to-date with patches but don't know if I have to download all Of them or where to find them.

My next couple of questions are to do with car set-ups.
1) I enjoy playing about with car set-ups but can't find how to stop the car swapping ends both under breaking and generally going around corners. I had a good set-up that took weeks to get right but tweaked it to much and now it's useless.

2) in the car set-up manual it says that the Clutch pack LSD is the most commonly used differential but I just can't get it driving around corners. The only differential I can drive with is the locked diff which buggers up my tyres.

3) tyres! Every time I race my tyres screech when going around every corner no matter my spee or angle of entry. Why?

Thanks
Keith
latest version is "Y", the current LFS version you are using is displayed on the bottom of the "main screen" in LFS. Either you can use the autoupdate to get the latest version (X or higher) or you need to download the latest version from www.liveforspeed.net

Setups are difficult, but there are plenty of easy to use setups here in the forum, or even guides to help you tweaking / building your own set (even with quick help):
Guide: http://www.cyber-racing.org/we ... com_wrapper&Itemid=59
Setups: http://setupfield.teaminferno.hu/

For the driving: practice makes perfect. You can also download replays of hotlaps from www.lfsworld.net

Apart from that you can still upload a replay of you driving here and I think there will be some friendly people to help you out.
Also, here is a quick setup guide by Gentlefoot which briefly explains the very basics. Makes it easy to fix concrete problems with your current set!
Hi
I'm using a really old version "Live for Speed S2 0.5P ALPHA." Where do I find the auto update?
can I just install the latest catch and that would be enough?
I've also tried to log into www.lfsworld.net but I don't know which password it needs

Thanks
Keith

Simply go into LFS and click multiplayer. It will say there is a new version. Simple follow the instructions and let it do its thing

Hope this helps mate
Version P doesn't have autoupdate, so that suggestion isn't going to help.

Go to www.lfs.net, and download S2 from there. Then simple install it over your current version. Your setups won't be much use, but your colours might be. They used to be in lfs\data\settings, but now go in data\setups and data\colours. However, you'll also need to rename them to use the three character car codes (XFG, XRG...).

I wouldn't bother with setups, or colours unless you have lots and lots you want to use.

Oh, and it'll take a few minutes to convert your skins to dds (from jpg), and will look likes it stopped responding I think (unless newer patches give you a progress indicator).

The latest version has a lot of improvements, but clutch heat and the lack of the XRT in the demo are two things you might want to consider before upgrading. Version X still has the XRT in the demo (instead of the Formula BMW we have now), and doesn't have clutch heat, but is otherwise pretty similar. There aren't many online servers using X though.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy LFS. Did you once post on RSC about your mouth controls? It's become the stuff of legend amongst the long-term LFS forum geeks, and we've used your example on a couple of occasions. Would you be able to post some details on your control system?
Tristan! yeah probably I'm a bit of a racing sim addict And am always on the lookout for new driving games I can play.

My mouth control is a single stick joystick with 2 buttons which acts like a mouse. I've been experimenting recently with different driving styles and control methods. for ages I used 1 button which has a latching facility and left the accelerator constantly on and used the other button for breaking. I can break with my chin while steering with my tongue but it has a tendency to be erratic.
Recently I discovered that the joystick can operate both steering and throttle/breaking which is slightly more consistent But can't seem to get the same breaking manoeuvres a with the buttons.

Not being funny here, and I don't mean to offend anyone.......but.........

Does anyone else find it a bit..........odd..........that a disabled person would call themselves "spacman"?
Keith, I just have to say that i'm amazed whenever I hear/see/read a story like this. If it's possible could we get some pictures of your control setup? Also, if it's not too personal, what reason is it that you have to control things without the use of your limbs? Accident? Born a quadraplegic?

Curious to know more,

Matt

Believe it or not, people with disabilities can have a sense of humour yunno

Check out the name of this wheelchair

Then again, the OP'er may have just made a bit of an unfortunate typo when choosing a name
Yeah, I know, it's good really, because it flies in the face of all this P.C. bullplop we have to live with.

I second this! Kudos to you, mate!
