Start from pitlane if not qualified
A nice feature would be if all racers that do not drive a valid qualification lap have to (= are forced to) start the race from the end of the pitlane AND are only allowed to cross the line AFTER the whole field has passed. This is similar to the rules in most Real-World Racing series.

At the moment there is only the option to put all those non-qualifiers to spectate mode so they have to wait the 12 second delay after the lights gone green until they can join the race again and have to drive all the long way through the pitlane.

A workaround could be to give server admins the ability to edit the amount of time you have to wait after race start until you can join the race.

Yeah, I'll just go ahead and steal your thread:

Frankly, I'd like to see all cars start in the pits at the start of a race session. Though I'm not suggesting everyone would have to do an out lap. No, a "go to grid" button would do absolutely fine. This would minimize the risk of having an AFK driver on the grid (which happens quite often in pick-up races and every now and then in league racing as well).

To incorporate your idea into this, all Scawen would have to do is to remove the "go to grid"-button for those who haven't qualified.

Normally drivers who have picked up penalties are made to start from the back of the grid, sometimes with a 10 second penalty (delayed start). Starting from the pitlane is only normally done by cars that opt to either because they were too late to get to the grid or have chosen not to take the start either because they need a push (it's not uncommon for racing clutches to fail in a locking way meaning a car can race so long as it can be push started) or on grounds of safety if a driver thinks he's likely to have a mechanical failure of some description which obviously isn't terribly desirable in front of a field of cars.
