I just dug up something on the net, i saw a news title on slashdot and it appealed to me - "Internet Community Catches Car Thief".
Long story short:

-Thief encounters another forum member at Chinook mall, member recognizes stolen vehicle as described in this post. Snaps pictures, posts on beyond. Even in a city of 1 million people, thief is spotted within hours due to internet exposure
-Thief is found on facebook using said pictures, recognized by multiple members
-Full name, address, and workplace is found via facebook
-Multiple forum members drive to known address at 2:30am, car is parked outside. Dude peeks out the window, sees posse, gets scared.
-Car disappears at some point.
-Another member drives by later, finds car. Boxes car in, calls cops, calls rightful owner
-Hilarity ensues
-Cops show up 2 hours later, pictures and youtube video posted of stolen car, and Dr. Claw the fail car thief getting arrested
-Car is now safe at home, back up for sale, with a new test drive policy. Bonus: Thief leaves $22 in change, and a shitty wanksta hat.

Link is passed around to virtually every forum worldwide within hours, checking in to show community support. Appears on front page of digg.com.

what really made me crack laughing was this:
they took his "gangsta(wanksta?:tilt" hat, and put it on ebay, bid ending at 255usd.. BUT.. check out the descriptions.. (photos).
pretty much pwnt him, served him what he deserved.

Haha, reminds me of that case when a man tried to adverstise his little fraud scheme on an NSX appreciators forum, after some research they found out he was a listed paedophile and found out his address and his personal details and were posting them up along with embarrasing mugshots, both these people were rightfully pwned.

lol i ever have my 200sx stolen when i have one in 5-10 years i'll ask for help on here much quicker than the police lol.

On topic with the thread, yea that's pretty cool, nice car too, pretty dunse to let the guy "test" drive it on his own though.

The guy made the definition of pwn3d by t3h int3rn3tzz clear to the general public. Hope i typed the leet style right lol.

And an M3 would keep up with an r32. Suppose he gave up cause he had his gf and kid in the car. I'd have forced the guy onto the hard sholder then dragged him out of the car and got the gf to drive the m3 and driven the car to the police to give back to the owner.

Reminds me of a story I read a while back about someone watching a cross-continent live webcam feed (one of those just for scenery and stuff) only to witness a kiosk break-in in progress. Apparently he called the overseas police to report the incident, and then saw the bust go down live, too
