Suggestion: Elo point system in high licenses
hi,

I was wathcing ctra website, and i was thinking about what will happen if somebody reaches the "superlicense"? The next level will be ultralicense, the super-ultra license? And so on... Since ctra's system is counting "skill points", based on how many races you finished, in a few years nobody will be able to follow it. I mean only 1.5 years past since stcc/ctra is counting the points, and many people already reached the titanium license. They can challange now to the so called "unbotitanium" license.

But what if somebody reached a high-level license, such as titanium or superlicense, the points counting system will automatically switch to the Élő point system. This system is used by the chess federation to show how good a chess player is. I don't really know the mathematics of this system, but it's not so bat, i think. The competitor's points are calculated from the other participant's points. But, it seems my post is getting too long, here is a wikipedia article about the Élő point system:

just an idea, to keep ctra growing
That is an excellent idea, I was also wondering how the future would handle an increase in users and more race time, everyone would end up with the same status.
Certainly looks interesting. Those examples are all to do with 1v1 encounters. Might need some research and looking into how it can apply to a race, but it does look interesting.
Sounds interessting.
YES, good idea.
The point system now only shows how much time someone spend on the Ctra servers (not entirely true but you get my point)
It would be good to have a ranking based on how good someone can race.

Why do you all want points?

As I see it the goal of CTRA point system was a solution to offer high quality pickup races, by filtering the cleaner and faster racers, promoting them using points.
We still see that on race 1: racers with dedication will eventually get a higher licence, this taking more or less time according to skill and cleanliness. The others will not progress and leave.
Therefore the system works and achieves its goal. Race 2 and SS2 servers are not full yet, so there is room for more racers promoted before an evolution is needed, no rush there.

Once you get points / licences for higher servers the points were only here to make sure you can find racers fast and clean enough to offer you some competition, and are no more use for you (except if you want to be in the fisrt page of the website).
So why would you want more licences?
I agree with the last post, the current system already does what it was intended to do.
I do, though, understand the desire for a way to more directly compete and compare yourself to other racers. Hopefully X2 will provide ways to do that. As it stands now, I don't think there's a need to change the current point system, though.
ok, I agree with you guys, but don't forget. You can be in a very good position in the point list, if you have started gaining points early. I was lucky, and i started to race in the old STCC days, so I got Platinum license very easy. Than I started to collect points as the X-system started, and I have Int B license now for single seaters. I'm in 9th place in the top-ss list. I am not good driver as Willi or Moose, but they are all behind me. This is not a fair standing. Elo system could change it.
As I mentioned, Elo system should work in high licenses, such Titanium and Super Licese.
Does it work similarly to the ratings systems used by chess gaming sites on the web? Meaning it's possible to lose points if you finish behind someone with a lower ranking then you? If that's the case I think it could be detrimental to racing on CTRA in general. You might have people avoiding racing people with much lower rankings for fear of losing points. At least that's the way it played out when I played chess on the web a lot.
While it's been fun for me chasing licenses on CTRA (and I still have a long way to go), the bottom line is once you get the licenses you want, points really shouldn't matter. That they do is a testament to the great job CTRA has done, but it's important to remember what the system is for.
no, i mean the license sould remain titanium or super license, but the ctra points could change after the races. So Elo points could be the rating of drivers, and ctra points should remain as "skill points".

Racing is a competitive sport.
Ctra does an excellent job filtering the good from the bad.
But a ranking like the elo system can be a stimulans to improve your driving skills.
The one thing all good racers have in common is the will to be the best.
