The online racing simulator
Got a wheel but I need a racing seat?
Hi, I'm not sure what seat/chair to get for my setup in my living room. I'm not looking for driving simulator sort of thing, just a racing style office chair or maybe build my own using a bucket seat or a recliner seat using one of these: http://clientes.europeanpowers ... r%20ruedas%20despacho.jpg
from ebay. I've come across many racing style office chairs, but they are either too expensive or not my style, and thats why I think I will end up building my own. I was looking at bucket seats for the job, but size and comfyness are issues due my 37in waist and would be a tight fit. I like the OMP Classic seat for it's simple look: http://www.ybracing.co.uk/images/seats/HA737.bmp but I would need the number 2 version that is wider, but I can't find them in the UK. I'm open to alternatives like a recliner racing seat, but must be color black. Any ideas? I'm on a £200 budget.

go to you local scrappy - find a GTR type car, and give the guy £20 to get out a seat for you.

Get the frame as well and then mount it on something suitable.

The last thing you really want is the seat to be mounted onto wheels.

to be honest I would just get a middle of the road office type chair for about £40-50 quid that is comfortable and that you can change the height and the amount it tips back etc.... then just take the wheels off of it ... thats what I've got and its more that adequate.

of course if you are looking at playing in your lounge isn't the biggest issue going to be to mount your steering wheel on something more solider than you lap?

Firstly you don't want wheels or a rotating seat, you want something as stirdy as possible, quickly knocking up a frame is the best option if you're able to do so. If you're larger fitting into a bucket seat can be an issue, I'm not as large as you and I'm a snug fit in most bucket seats. There are wider versions but TBH you'll probably end up paying well over £200 for one, just getting a normal road seat doesn't have to cost anything and will be of no disadvantage when you're not be flung about the place.
