Sharing the PC and PS3 internet connection (Vista)
Hey guys, i need help to share this freakin internet connection. I've connected the PS3 an PC through a Lan (ethernet) cable, and when i go to the properties of my ADSL connection and go to "share", this error pops out when i click "OK" after checking that box...

What is causing this, anyone encountered this error code? I've searched about it, but it seems it's an error for all kind of things, stupid "unindentified" error

why do you connect your PC and PS3???

Umm, so i can go on the internetz with my PS3?
I don't have a router nor do i have a ADSL modem with LAN connectivity, so i have to connect it to the PC and share that connection, so both PC and PS3 are at the same time on the internetz...
I dont think you can share the connection without a router, at least as far as I know (not really got much of an idea with networking), if you want to go on the internet with your PS3 just disconnect the ethernet from the PC and put it in the PS3.

Actually you can, there is a thread on one Serbian forum where people connected it this way, they posted all the settings etc, it works for them, but i just can't share the connection

For people who don't have a hardware router, the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) option in Windows makes your PC perform the router duties so that other network enabled devices can get on the Internet (so long as you have more than 1 network card).

Please, read what the OP posted. You're just making yourself look like an idiot. He doesn't have a router.

To the topic, try disabling any firewalls you might have, and make sure both network cards are functioning correctly.

I know this isn't strictly what you want, but you can get a USB powered switch for less than £5 that can share an interweb connection...

Yep, all firewalls disabled, but how can i know if network cards are functioning properly? My motherboard has a network card in it (i guess, Gigabyte P35C DS3R) and i connected the LAN cable to the only available place in the case..
PS3 is connected on the other end, and both ends of the cable are blinking or just stays on, one is orange, the other is green light.. (noob explanations i know but i'm not so familiar with networks)

@ Jakq

Yea, i'll probably get that or the router, just don't have the time to search for those right now, the thing is, this works for many people, only if i could share the connection.

You do know you need two LAN ports to do this, right?

Sorry, i don't know what that means I'll explain in noob language..
I've bought a LAN (ethernet) cable as suggested, the both ends are the same, so one end goes to the playstation, the other end goes in my PC.
In network connections, i go to the properties of my DSL connection and then "sharing" and when i check that box "allow other users bla bla" and click OK, i get that error like in the picture. The LAN connection is "enabled" offcourse.
Ah, is this a USB modem? In which case you'd only need the one NIC. It should still work though.

So does the PS3 acquire an IP address?
If so, can you ping it?

And just checking, you have bought a crossover cable and not a patch cable?

Yes, it's an old Conexant USB modem, here's the best picture i could find

It's USB goes to the PC.

And the cable, i don't know, they call it a LAN cable here and it is used to connect two PC's, that's the best explanation i can get.
I got this thing to work finally. The problem was with Windows Firewall, it had to be turned ON for some reason, and only then i could enable connection sharing...
Good to hear
