New computer
Hi everyone, I am getting some money for my birthday and have saved up a bit and i am hoping to get a new computer of my own. I have a budget of about 400 pounds. I don't really know a lot about computers so i kinda need some help. It doesnt have to be a good case i don't really care about the looks i just want some fairly decent innards. I would like a 19'' screen or something close to that, dual core processor is fine. 2 gb ram preferably. not an amazing graphics card but one that is fairly good. These are all the basic things i can think of. I would be extremely grateful for any replys. TY Aidan

Will you be building it yourself or will you be buying it pre-built?
I will be buying the different components seperatley then putting them together
so building myself
I would proberly start off with the Prossesor then get a motehr board that is suitable and work form there PSU's are pretty much compatable with most equpment check out ebuyer and look though the processors find one that is reasonably priced and you think you would be happy with then post a link and people will give you advice its very difficult to just say buy this this and this its nice ot hav a ball park estimate.

It's very difficult to just say buy this and that! It's nice to have a good estimate.

I think you should start off with a GFX card to start with. A good, cheap and reliable card is an ATi Radeon X800 PRO VIVO. These cards are amazingly quick and easy to overclock. This card boosted my PC's terrible average performance of 15fps (with an intergrated one) to 130fps (with the ATi Radeon X800 Pro VIVO)!
WTF?? X800??? If you dont understand anything, then don't talk. x800 is soo old card. Does it even have pixel shader 3.0?

GPU: Radeon 4850
CPU: E8200 - E8400
MoBo: Some with P35 or P31 chipset, like Asus P5K, or Giga Byte GA-P35-DS3L
PSU: Corsair 450W or maybe more
Some HDD, some RAM and so on.

How much did you have to spend...?
i just built a computer and I put it together about 10 hours ago I can run Crysis on high. Very high is okay, but not as smooth as i'd like it to be. i dont like under 30fps. 1280x1024.
Other than crysis, nothing else brings these parts below 60fps at 1280x1024.

Intel E8400
BIOSTAR TForce TP43D2A7
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1066ram
Visiontek Radeon 4850
640gig WD 7200rpm sata (supposed to be very fast)
COOLER MASTER Centurion 534
550watt Cooler Master psu
Fanatec Porsche 911 wheel
I have just 400 poundss to spend, i have been saving up with b'day money :P
anda Gabkicks, how much did yours cost?
$850 total to be shipped. I mailed in all my rebates, and if i get all of those, I will have payed $800 for my system. I was thinking about getting a 22 or 24 inch widescreen monitor. My motherboard only has one pcie 2.0 slot though and was $89.

I think I'll buy a 4870x2 when that comes out for more powah. (hopefully my 550watts can handle it) I'm really impressed w/ the 4850 though. This system completely owns my old one.
that is £425
You'll probably be able to get it for less around now and september, since Intel is releasing Nehalem. AMD is coming out with Deneb soon, so you might want to go with that too if it is better.
less on cpu, more on gpu...
