Quote from Jakg :We have some Dells in-stock.

That one has Vista Home Premium just like it says in the specs...

Yes I know but it doesn't state whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit....

The 420 can come with a monitor but also without it, had a look at one today - forgot to check the OS version though
Quote from Jakg :The 420 can come with a monitor but also without it, had a look at one today - forgot to check the OS version though

Could you have a look for me some time next week please?
I didn't see that option in our PC World, ours just says, £899.99 without security package and I think about £949.99 with security package, doesn't say anything about some not coming with the monitor. For £899.99 the pc proberly still comes with the monitor doesn't it?
Anyway what do you think of the computer, any good?
if you want vga cooling, get the arctic cooling accelero s1 rev2

it can cool my 3850...
better than the stock cooler...
passively...
and verticaly...
(the fan you see between the two coolers runs at ~300rpm and is inaudible, moves a bit of air to the cpu)

I'm going to say don't get the XPS...I was going to get an XPS a few weeks ago as my next PC, when I was convinced not to. After shopping around, I found www.hardwareversand.de, where I've just ordered a full PC (ex Monitor, but a decent 22" widescreen is only €220) for €730, delivered by courier. For another €20, they'll build it and stick on an OS. And it pummels the XPS performance-wise.

If you don't want to order over t'internet, PC World would still have better PCs than the XPS. I still don't see why you'd ever get it in PC World, when they just buy them off Dell and sell them more expensive, you'll get less support (Dell is still releasing new drivers for my 6 year old 8300) and you'll kick yourself that you didn't buy the Dell from Dell...PC World would have cheaper ones that are just as good performce-wise anyway
I am not buying the PC out of my own pocket, I just want a quick solution, cba to order from Dell, I will buy it from them, if anything goes wrong I will repair it myself, always have done.
You'll regret rushing into it...don't say I didn't warn you
Quote from dougie-lampkin :You'll regret rushing into it...don't say I didn't warn you

I may but I'll never hear the end of it from my Dad, he will say you could of put an already built pc and not of spent an hour putting one together lol.
True, but I'd rather spend an hour building it, €200 less, and have a system nearly twice as good...with the site I ordered my parts off of, they'll assemble and throw on the OS for €20 extra too

Yes, but at the moment I CBA to build one as my dad can be funny about it, I know you can build one twice as good for the fraction of an already built on but at the moment I will buy this one and do updates to it to bring it up to date, plus PC World is 5-10minutes away from my house so I think it would be a little quicker also lol.
It would be quicker to collect it though, yea...mine's been ordered a week ago, and is due on Tuesday...not too bad

PC World price-match Dell (and will give you 10% of the difference back) and you can walk out with it the same day.

They will try to sell you "PC Performance", though (we make 3% on laptops / PC's but we make an f'ing KILLING on the extras) - it's £8.99 monthly and while on it's own is pretty useless, you might be able to get it and then get a discount on the PC itself - and PC Performance covers accidental damage (oooops i knocked it over when it wouldn't play FarCry 3 new one plz kthxbai) and a free "upgrade" (to what I have no idea) after 3 years iirc.

Don't bother with Norton or Office, though!

EDIT - I do have a pic of the XPS 420 on my phone - i'll drag it off later.

Heres the pic of it - the mouse isn't the one you get, and the screen res is set wrong, and the pic is crap because I was "working" at the time but you get the idea.

And pic #2 is what I watched the GP on

EDIT - My god my camera SUCKS.

The store you are in asks for more money then our store down here for the PC.
I didn't understand your first post very well, half asleep, i'm really tired and it isn't making much sense to me, haven't got my brain switched on today lol.
So if I go in there and say Dell is selling the computer for this much, they will sell me it for the same price as Dell?
Did you get the OS Version or not?
I came across the Computer when searching through PC World's website and I think it's a better deal, more upto date GPU, 1GB more Ram, Digitial TV Tuner and the same CPU, the only downside is that you lose 500GB of HDD space but I think it's worth it for more upto date GPU.
Would you say this is better then the Dell XPS 420/1159 or not?

That one may come with a monitor though whereas your one doesn't.

PC World have a price-match policy - any shop within 30 miles or a few internet shops (most notably, Dabs, Amazon, Play & Dell) if they have it cheaper (inc. delivery) we will match the price and give 10% of the difference back - just take print out of their price to the till (and a copy of the PC World price-match page incase your till operator is a numpty) and you should get the discount.

Unless you plan on having an large film / pr0n collection 500GB should be enough - only now is 320GB being too small for me...

Ok I see, I think it said the pc was the tower and monitor, if I go to get it and they say it doesn't come with the monitor and it stats it does they cant really get around it, they only had 2 prices the whole PC including monitor etc... for £899.99 and the one that was £949.99 because it had the security package with the pc, I will never get Norton anway, it's crap lol.

I do store a lot of movies (Not Pr0n) and music on my pc thats why I mainly need a large HDD capacity.
I read thru some of the posts, but not all, but, has anyone asked what it is exactly you'll be using the computer for? Because, if you're just going to be playing live for speed, you can grab a gig of ram and a gpu for around 150$ that will run LFS over 100FPS at all times, with graphics maxed out.

However, if you want to play newer games(Crysis, Quake Wars, COD4), I'd take everyone's advice, as it seems you are, and wait, build a new PC. Upgrading what you have will end up with you spending double the money for half the performance boost.

Anyways, I like what you choose to build.

I will be using the PC for:
Gaming
Watching TV and DVD's
Listening to music
Building websites
Media, as in creating videos, editing photos etc...
and a few more.

I can get just under 100fps when about 7 cars next to me, on a starting grid of around 25 cars, I get around 20-30fps.
I just dont play LFS, I play FSX and a few others, I need a new PC and the HP one I will be going for.

My current pc already has a Gig of ram and a 2600XT GFX card, just time for a update.

What should I update first?
