Forum suggestion: Thread delete request?
Hi guys! well, I was thinking that sometimes that when we make new threads to ask for help because of a problem and then after a while, find out how to solve it ourselves, resulting the thread pointless, could there be an option to request mods to delete threads?. I think it would also work for those who post about subjects that already have their own thread so that if someone realises that there is another thread about the subject that they made a new topic about, they can request it to be deleted as well. I don't really understand much about the forum system as I understand that the devs bought a forum system from another company so the option may not be available but in the case that it is, I think it would be a great idea.
For the amount of times you'll need to delete a thread, I can't see the use in it. A thread lock request would be nice though

It's called "report." Works quite well.
For your 2 examples, there are also reasons against deleting. If you start a thread about a problem you have and solve it yourself, instead of asking to delete the thread, make a new post stating how you solved the problem. It might be helpful for other people who have the same problem in the future.

And threads on a topic that has already been covered get put together pretty fast by the mods already anyway.

I think the possibility to ask for the thread to get locked is enough.

You can also rename the thread title and add [SOLVED], or something like that to it. vBulletin does have a option for thread prefixes, but it's not activated here.

The marking threads as solved is a mod which isn't installed here. It is normally accessible through the thread tools menu if it is installed.
The thread prefixes that vB 3.7.x has are fugly and should remain turned off.
i dont know if it is possible on this forum but i know on some forums i heard that there used to be a way to set something up whereby a thread can be set to automatically delete if it isnt added to within a certian time.
I know that on some smaller forums/boards where bandwidth is limited older threads are deleted to save space. On a forum this size i understand that this would be a mammoth task.
