Thing is, it will never happen, stores and malls and other businesses simply can't do it, and they eat up most of the energy. They can't do it because people who didn't hear about this message, or simply forgot about it, would be totally ticked off when shopping then the lights get shutoff... There would be mass panics in some areas, I'd be fine with it, electricity is a necessity for my job, but not really for my life - just a very VERY good convenience, however I am certain some can't live without, and some can't imagine a day without... If I remember at that time, which I doubt I will, then I'll probably join and unplug / halt most of my energy uses - but the world won't join... really.

Don't know about the other translations, but the greek one at least is horrendous!

Yes I agree with you in some things, but the idea is to do something together to try to change things, the global warming won't stop because of 10 minutes of "blackout", but we need to start doing something to change our leaders minds

These days are silly, it'll never really happen because I am not going to unplug my freezer or fridge, hospitals are hardly going to shut off their stuff, no businesses are going to turn off lights and computers. It goes on and on, other than a few up their own arse hippies no one will follow this.

Look at the Earth Day, or whatever the hell it was called, where they wanted the UK to turn off all of their electric items for the day, the National Grid had an online monitor to follow the consumption and it was so much higher than expected for the day (and they didn't take into count Earth Day, it was the expected for a normal day at that time of year) they had to up production a little to meet demand.

Well in the UK 888 brings up subtitles and 999 is emergency services.

It's already been done quite a bit of times before. I remember here that we were asked to turn off all the lights for 1 hour and the electricity company would monitor and see how much energy is saved between those hours.

It's a pretty good idea really. Nitro, nothing blew up the last 2 years they've been doing that so I don't see why it would happen now.

I'm not one that is truely on board with we can do anything about global warming. Certainly I'll agree we are helping to speed up the process in some ways, but in my mind its a totally natural way for the planet to replenish. Basically it will happen at some point in time regardless of what we do. Now I won't ever say that gives us the right to ignore everything, and I will always do my part as far as picking up my own trash and junk that I bring places...

That was a huge shock to me, although I don't see much changing.

Last year I only turned off the lights not my computer :P And it didn't cause a blackout when people turned they're electronics back on so I don't see why you guys seem to think that magicly it will this year?

If it worked as it's supposed to, then there would be a mass overload on the electricity grids worldwide. But it won't, not everyone is going to do it. So there won't be a blackout

i think that you didn't understand that the blackout won't be at the same time in all the world, it will be at 21:50 local time of each country, not at a universal hour, so there will be 24 separate blackouts

But, I will not be a party breaker, so what the hell - I'll do it, and have posted it on two others forums. Tho, thanks to you I got flamed to hell and back I got 35 other members to do it, so well, at least 36 more.
