Quote from 91mason91 :yea sounds familiar
Whenever i go on holiday to a country that has a decent economy (Germany, Finland i suppose) i never really want to return home as i feel like i want to part of a differant Country.

are you saying that Scotland has a bad economy?

Let's just say that if they actually got independence they'd be begging to get invaded again within 6 months.
You can see where the expression ' Whinging Poms ' comes from.

All Europe is only one country now, get with the program people. What used to be countries are now regions so there's only one flag that you all need.

There is only one economy in Europe now, Regions will become less and less important and will ultimately only take care of parking and other local govt responsibilities.

maybe if you post it eight times itll somehow magically become true
Actually I still view Europe as 'forming' personally. We dont have a common economy quite yet, several nations for instance do not use the Euro still. It also has lack of all credibility both in it's law making process and the fact that it is an unelected self appointed supreme ruler make it an institution of distrust amongst the people of Europe.

Personally I like some things to have come out of Europe, and am dissapointed at others.

The member nations still have a great deal of autonomy but this, over time, is fading. They're trying to get that treaty passed that the Irish kicked out - I don't know much about it because i'm British and it's considered "too complicated" for my simple mind by my govenment who wish to protect me from it's potentially confusing contents.

Oh well, the sooner it passes into law the sooner the Yanks invade us for not having a democracy.

How ironic, the majority of whinging in this thread comes from the very post them I am quoting.

New Zealand still has to accept the authority of the Queen, get with the program people.
I want ma flag1!!

And yes, I prefer to be English than British
I'm British. I'm not English, Welsh or Scottish.

I do not want to be part of Europe, a single currency, or controlled by EU regulations.

The romans took over the world by force. People noticed. The germans tried taking over the world by force. People noticed. Britain took over [most] of the world by force. People noticed. 'Europe' (Brussels) is taking over the world slowly by politics, and nobody seems to give a damn.

If the pound keeps falling to the Euro, I give you a couple of years. You'll pay your London 2012 tickets in Euros

(Or maybe not )

EDIT: BTW, how strange not a single spanish posted to this thread...
Quote from Bladerunner :Nah...more appropriate would be: "I'm going Slightly Mad" !

(anything except Cwm Rhondda, anyway!)

Nope "God save the queen", Sex Pistols version

Good link Bean0, especially the further link to the often misunderstood definition of Country. Hence my choice of icon. I live in the Country called the UK of GB & NI so that is the flag I choose.

Actually I consider myself to be a European as much as British, because of my part European roots. So I for one wouldn't mind having an EU flag option.
Quote from Crashgate3 :I hate the idea of countries. I can see they're necessary from a purely administrative point of view, but in my opinion, they're just another way for people to divide themselves up into 'us' and 'them', in which it doesn't really matter what happens to 'them' because in a part of people's minds (albeit a small, tucked-away part for most people) they 'don't really count'.

I say i'm 'British' but that's just in reference to which side of an arbitrary imaginary line I was born. I don't reall feel any impulse to be patriotic in any way, to be honest I feel a little bit embarrassed about being British.

I agree, at least mostly. I think nations are a completely arbitary human construct and nationalism on the whole is more divisive than uniting. Having said that though, I don't usually feel embarrassed about being British. Britain has given a lot to the world, (as have many other nations of course).
Quote :I feel a little bit embarrassed about being British.

I will never be ashamed of who I am. Part of who I am is British, that just does not happen to be the reason why i'll never be ashamed, Britain does not represent me - I represent Britain, or rather a part of it. My part is proud of who and what I am and the bit of Britain I represent.
Quote from Becky Rose :I will never be ashamed of who I am.

Oh trust me, there's no shame on my part More a sort of embarrassment-by-proxy on behalf of the morons that give Britain some of its less savoury reputations.

Stupid people dont embarass me, they just wear me out.

Anyway i'm off to lie down for a bit.

LOL, you mean adding some flowers or puppies to the flag?

Damn scumm.

Here in Spain there are some morons who keep using traditional celtic symbols for their stupid nazi clubs. Good old Panoramix should come and rape them in the *ss for that.
Quote from hyntty :IIRC the one with the cross, like all scandinavians have, has been around since 16th century.

Ahh here we go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordic_Cross_Flag

Yeah but the flag posted by BlueFlame wasnt a Nordic Cross. It was a schwasticka, and although thats been around since a lot longer then a certain war in recent history, i'm pretty damned sure the NSF aren't too bothered about it's ancient roots.
These flags make me lol, alot.

We're already paying for the Olympics, through taxes. Nobody can really want such an expensive, pointless show finanically crippling their country, can they? The sport is good, but I've never understood how jumping into sandpits and throwing pointy sticks costs xxxx millions pounds/euros/dollars.

I certainly wouldn't consider buying tickets, when I can see all of it on the TV, and get vastly more of the atmosphere overall.

Quote from 5haz :Indeed, of course I'd like to see him get thrown out of the FIA too.

The point is that the ferrets would be fatal, or leave him in hospital for a long while. We can sharpen their teeth if needed, or teach them how to use flamethrowers.

Quote :Richard Whitely was bitten by a Ferret?

Si.

The Euro rate change is an example that the UK should have joined the Euro earlier, but it would be suicidal for us to join now. I doubt Labour could be that stupid, but I wouldn't but anything beyond Moron Brown.

There are people which make this dinky little island off the coast of the rest of Europe seem like a mad house. And, Tristan, if you don't want the UK to be part of Europe where do you suggest moving the country to then

We wont be paying anything for tickets for the 2012 olympics because it most likely wont be ready in time.
