Quote from tristancliffe :We're already paying for the Olympics, through taxes. Nobody can really want such an expensive, pointless show finanically crippling their country, can they? The sport is good, but I've never understood how jumping into sandpits and throwing pointy sticks costs xxxx millions pounds/euros/dollars.

I certainly wouldn't consider buying tickets, when I can see all of it on the TV, and get vastly more of the atmosphere overall.

Yep, I agree, my city ran for 2012 too, and now is running to get the olympics in 2016 (Madrid) all the camaping payed with taxes of course.
Quote from duke_toaster :There are people which make this dinky little island off the coast of the rest of Europe seem like a mad house. And, Tristan, if you don't want the UK to be part of Europe where do you suggest moving the country to then

Dunno, but you could take the opportunity and look for a place with better weather
OP:

I use the union flag because my nan on my dads side was scottish and my nan on my mums side is irish. I was born in England but spend a bit of time in Scotland and I love it there.
Quote from ATC Quicksilver :I wonder how many people share my opinion that our national anthem should be changed to "Rule, Britannia!", that would do more to stir up patriotism than a pointless British day that nobody will recognise or celebrate.

Rule Britannia is so much more upbeat than a song that requires it's lyrics to be changed depending who is wearing a golden hat.

Quote from Shotglass :maybe if you post it eight times itll somehow magically become true

The EU is trying to do the same thing as the USA, unite all sates into one country, if it happens we'll be the biggest most powerful country in the world. That'll shut the yanks up for once.

Quote from Eldanor :If the pound keeps falling to the Euro, I give you a couple of years. You'll pay your London 2012 tickets in Euros

(Or maybe not )

EDIT: BTW, how strange not a single spanish posted to this thread...

Even with the GBP falling 78% of Brits want to keep it in favour of the EUR.

Late to the party, but this is my Family Crest and yes, I am from Yorkshire stock, although diluted by Lincolnshire blood. In fact, I have two crests, Bush is my fathers side, Ridgeway my mothers side.

I don't think Lincolnshire blood could improve anything, other than ones desire to steel wheels.

And that's a good thing is it? A much better idea would be to have the US split into individual states like Europe as least used to be. If that were to happen I'm sure they'd quickly stop trying to be world police and start squabbling among themselves instead. If you could do the same to China, Russia and India while you're at it, I'm sure the world would be a better place.

Big government leads to the dark side.
Quote from hyntty :What's that again, couldn't hear you cause pound crashed so loudly.
